I saw posts being specific. I found a general post, like this, but there was no active thread it was from 2022. Just a note here. My reads (Lenormand and Tarot) keep telling me to get going. Groundhog day, Imbolc, is coming up. So, I’m gonna get out of my “winter” because I feel the stirrings of newness getting ready to come into my life. Anyone else, just want to talk? About anything?
I like the thought of “getting out of my winter”, and feeling newness/Spring beginning to stir. That’s a lovely and positive outlook.
Me, I’m looking forward to Imbolc this year. Well, it’s my first official Imbolc so that’s the main reason. But - even knowing how cold and wintry this Sunday will be, celebrating will be very heartwarming for me. It will get me into my kitchen as well as lighting some candles.
I think Imbolc will feel hopeful for me - hopeful and positive.
I pulled out some spring colors in clothes. Once I do a load of laundry, this week, I’ll get the winter colors put away. I’m hoping the brighter colors help me get into better weekly habits.
Ancient European peoples viewed the year energetically as “ascending” from the winter solstice to the summer solstice, and then “descending.” I always feel that sense of anticipation towards the end of January. You know that it won’t be long now until the days get longer and warmer.
The kitchen of a house is always the best place to be, no? I have a habit of cooking a big pot of soup on Saturday, that will last the whole weekend. Having a pot of soup on the stove and some bread makes me feel so cosy. And whenever someone shows up unexpectedly, I can offer them a bowl of hot soup on a cold day. There is something comforting about it.
Well, it’s cold, and the sidewalks here are still frozen over, so I’m canceling my backup doctor appointment today. I don’t want to put anyone, including myself, in danger. So instead, I’m going to finish figuring out what I’m doing for my Imbolc ritual. Sally, my worker, is frozen in her driveway too. So I’m just going to hibernate today and think of Spring, sunshine, and 65-degree weather!
Last year was my first, but I had just started my daily practice. This year I will be more involved just because of what I have learned throughout this year.
My husband is from Mexico and talks about his Grandma always having a pot of “caldo de Res” (beef soup) on at all times. If you wanted a snack, grab a bowl of soup and some tortillas, coming in from the cold, Caldo de Res, got rained on, Caldo de Res…basically, a bowl of hot soup can solve almost anything!!
sorry Amethyst, I had to giggle, here in Vegas, used to over 100 degree days, we think 65 degrees is COLD. We don’t even consider it “comfortable” until it is about 80. We don’t have humidity, and like you always hear “but it’s a dry heat”….until you experience it, you don’t understand.
Yes my fellow sweethearts, I am looking forward to warmer weather and Spring too.
I have broccoli cheese soup and Red Lobster biscuits. It will be good to use them up before the weather gets too warm.
So do we, in New Mexico. However, since we are just rising back to 50, 65 would be balmy! I could get the lighter jacket back out… though I might be tempted to get outdoors more rather than focusing on cleaning.
So we’ve been going through a huge house remodel for the last year. Finally almost done! We’ve been cleaning and clearing out the stuff and dusting. We decided to redo my study where I spend alot of time as my back is gone from years of hard labor. One of the things we did was get a newer recliner chair for my study. I also got a new IKEA computer desk. On Sunday as I was assembling the desk I saw out of the corner of my eyes, a white thing about the size of a Hummingbird fly out of the chair and dissappear into the corner of the ceiling. I wasn’t sure if it was a good or bad thing but it felt like a great time to smudge the room and the house. So I got to work with some sage. It didn’t feel like something evil or anything but it felt like the right thing to do. Has anyone else ever had a similar experience? Don’t tell me if it was a horrible experience, I don’t want to get freaked out.
I’m looking forward to Imbolc this year. It won’t be my first, but I wasn’t really sure what I was doing last year. I feel like this year will be more meaningful. I’m going to be redoing my pentacles, that currently has Yule decorations on it, and add some Imbolc symbols, silk crocuses if I can find them, green ribbon etc.
In Texas, we are in the midst of our brief “week of winter” - nighttime temps in the 20s this week, daytime temps anywhere from the 40s to 60s.
Summer will be here soon enough, so I will make the most of the cooler weather and enjoy it while it lasts (as long as the power stays on!)
I recently had a similar experience. If you feel the need to smudge, do it!!! Something is pushing you in that direction. Trust your gut. My first thought if it was a hummingbird you saw/sensed, it is usually a good sign. But, who knows??? Only you can interpret that for your situation. All we can do here, is give you our opinions on any mystical subject. Now, for Imbolc, and first spring cleaning.
So, I’m getting ready to clean a bunch of stuff too. My husband is on the verge of the “hoarding” abyss. Gotta “nip that in the bud” (Andy Griffith people know what I mean), before it becomes a problem.
Lady Gene
Yes, this sounds lovely to me!!! I bet Abuela has the most delicious recipies!
I did the math, this is like 38 Celsius…that´s very hot. Viennas hottest summer days (July/August) are about 36 that would be 96. Luckily those days are limited, Vienna has very humid air, it´s like sauna in summer.
Well, taking a break from cleaning every now and then can´t hurt.
For me, every year is different in what I´m doing and for many years I didn´t even document my altars and rituals. This is something I kinda regret, but I´m doing it now. It´s nice being able to look back and see what my altars looked like five years ago.
The further you walk down the witchcraft path, the more interesting things are going to happen. Don´t let them scare you. If you want my thoughts on it…I personally believe that these things are around us all the time. What changes is our perspective and our frequency. At least, this is my experience, that I´m tuning in differently now, than I did a few years ago.
I honestly don´t think that it is something to worry about. Last summer I had five dead hornets in my apartment and had no idea where they came from. I live in the midst of Vienna, since more than 30 years and in this apartment for 10 years. I´ve never seen hornets in my neighbourhood. After I found the five hornets (which I kept because they´re cool) a 6th hornet flew into my apartment and vanished - just like you described it - somewhere in the ceiling.
Whatever that was, whatever that meant…
And I totally agree with our Lady Gene:
Absolutely! When something is weirding me out, I´m also talking to whatever I think is there.
Everyone is spring cleaning!! It makes me want to clean my tiny home, too!
Hubby and I went to a local coffeehouse for chicken enchilada soup, and hot cocoa by their fireplace. I had gotten chilled walking to the flowershop to see if she had snowdrops. No luck. I did get my Imbolc altar together, and have done bit of cleaning. I am hoping she can find me some snowdrops though. As far as your little white spirit, Leo, I would not worry. Smudge if you like but say something that lets good spirits know it’s ok to stay.
Is your chair comfortable to sit in? If there is a spirit joining you through the chair, you ought to be able to sense its intentions just by relaxing in the chair. Still, if you feel like saging, do it. Your intuition is highly important right now.
I’m thinking the white thing you saw may have been an orb. They can be disconcerting, but are generally harmless. Most I’ve seen have simply been curious, if they had awareness at all. Some are methane gas- nothing to worry about if they are small.
Talking to it politely can’t hurt.
T’is the season. Once upon a time, Imbolc was intended as the cleaning process after giving birth because sheep and birds are ready to start their new families at this time of year.
@georgia thank you so much for the link! This was very informative! At the time, when I found the hornets, it FELT like a warning. Like someone saying: brace yourself, there´s a storm coming.
In some ways this was true, but we were protected and everything was okay in the end.
This makes so much sense! Thank you for pointing that out!
Might as well get up and get busy… except it’s dark, quiet hours, and I don’t want to wake my roommate. Good thing I have plenty to do on the computer, where I can wear headphones.
