Is wicca pagan or neo pagan religion?

It is yes but some people will disagree because any part of witch craft is spiritual and any type of Christian category is called religious

Wicca is considered a Neo-Pagan religion because it is “new”, so to speak.

Ok thank you … research is so confusing sometimes

I absolutely understand that  the great thing about the forum is you can pop in and ask whatever questions you may have – the only “dumb” question is the one not asked! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thank you I will surely do that… cuz everything I research comes to wicca mostly

Wasn’t Wicca founded back in the 50’s? Or am I wrong at that? I could be wrong, I sometimes confuse dates in things.

This is mostly because it is the most palatable and common form of witchcraft. There is a lot written about Wicca in all its forms, and any other type of paganism will be a bit more difficult to get started in. However, that’s not to say it’s impossible!

If you’re looking for a specific type of paganism, pop over to Q&A and ask about it. Then we can point you in the right direction!

Wicca was made popular in the 1950s in the UK by Gerald Gardner. He said that it’s an older religion than that due to the secrecy required – there were still laws in place that banned witchcraft practices – and that the repeal of the laws made it possible for their practice to go public. How true that is is anyone’s guess, but it remains one of the most popular forms of religious witchcraft to date.

The book Saxon Witchcraft by Raymond Buckland links Wicca to Seax Wicca, and thus links it to Saxon Witchcraft, which would make it very old, if this is to be believed. In 1951 the last British law against witchcraft was repealed (however Boris Johnson revoked that during COVID, shame), this repeal meant that the first ever book written by a witch was done. This was Witchcraft Today by Gerald Gardner. Alot claim, here in the UK anyway, that Wicca is not a traditional witchcraft practice, if what you want is an ancient form of Saxon lore, good luck, it’s very hard to find, I’ve been hunting that down for years, still am :person_shrugging:, but one of the beauties of Wicca I’ve found, is it’s ability to meld the old ways into a modern practice, which you could say, is what may have happened naturally, if witchcraft wasn’t banned in the first place. So maybe it is old after all.

I’m looking forward to learning more on the Saxon front and will probably in the process learn more about Wicca.

@MeganB Thank you. That’s what I thought.

@tracyS I know you will share when you learn more about Saxon witchcraft. I’m excited to learn more about it!

@ashlea we do have several threads in here about other forms of witchcraft if you are interested. @Satans_Helper is quite knowledgeable on satanism as well as other demons. @tracyS is quite knowledgeable in runes, Loki, and many other forms of practice, I know quite a bit about voodoo, @Mistress_Of_Herbs is very knowledgeable in herbs. @Cosmic_Curiosity is very knowledgeable in astrology. That is just to name a few of our many knowledgeable, talented witches in here.

As Megan said if you pose a question about a certain kind of magick in the q and a section or even message me some more, we can get the right person to help you or get the links for you that will help you. Love ya girl! :purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart:

so Wicca and Seax Wicca are the same or are they different… I have a lot to learn and everything is confusing the heck out of me

I’ll share more as soon as I’ve finished my research  but basically I think Seax Wicca is the English Wicca. The book is good and on Amazon and has some nice rituals in it. Also the Seax Wicca links Wicca to the old gods of England too, like Woden (Odin).

For me I liken witchcraft to a roadtrip. You’re always going to find something new, that’s what makes it so beautiful. If you want a simple Wicca, the Spells8 app has a fantastic course which I went through. It’s really nice how it’s explained.

Also key in your search request at the top right on the forum and other witches research will come up.

I follow the Northern Tradition (Odin Loki and the like) not wicca, but I think @Amethyst is Wiccan so maybe able to suggest other references. :green_heart:

Seax-Wicca is different from what you’re researching as it’s similar to the Northern traditions, so there isn’t much on the Horned God or Triple goddess.

With Hades I’m going to tag in @stavroula and @AIRAM as they’re our greek witchs. :green_heart:

There is a terrific book by Jason Mankey called The Horned God of the Witches and it goes into both Pan and Cernunnos and other Horned Gods.

Its been a bit since a read it but it was great! It might help you find what you’re looking for, as I believe it had a little bit to do with how Lucifer could be connected to the Horned Gods as well.

I hope this recommendation helps! I think I did a review of it for the book club about a year ago or so, and there might be more information t here.
