@Amethyst Come to California lol! Iāve been through 4 big ones! They are nerve wracking! Born and raised here but they still rattle my brain pan!
@Eira_of_the_Living_Hearth fortunately ours are on the grumbling side rather than angry. Most are under 3 on the Richter scale.
We had one back in June that was just over the 3. That did shake some plaster off the cornices.
Iām located at the foot hills of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia. The tremors started up about 18 months ago and have been every few weeks. Most we donāt notice.
Ours is a 1910 stone house, unlike the eastern states there wasnāt a lot of timber here so the European settlers built their homes in stone. With no real foundations, ours sits on the ground. So as we get very hot weather and the ground dries our house moves and cracks. Upside being itās so dry we donāt get the rising damp.
I love our little cottage, itās a traditionalfour room symmetrical cottage with the kitchen, laundry and bathroom tacked onto the back.
The original kitchen would have been built seperate from the house to minimise the risk of fire.
The moment I walked into this house I knew it wanted us to stay. It wanted a family, it wanted messy hands, laughter, yelling and tears. It had been quiet too long.
It sounds wonderful and very special! I would love to see Australia. Your country is absolutely beautiful!
Great Job! Thank you for your care and wisdom!
Please do!
Sounds Good. Enjoy!
Nope. Thereās plenty out there already. Are you the type to get tired of it all and complain? If not, go for it. I have to start early because of difficult memories: get it over with and shut down so I donāt have to deal with food allergies.
Sounds like the roads out here, too. People actually get angry at my driver for following the speed limit! ![]()
May she keep you safe! Iād be witless. We in Indiana had a gentle trembler as part of the discovery of the New Madrid Fault in Tennissee. I was young enough to think an industrial sized heater had turned on until I discovered that an earthquake in the same area made the Mississippi run backward! No more for me, thank you!
My week is all about errands and making sure my driver is prepared for winter. Her trailer park doesnāt allow underpinning, so weāre seeking alternatives to keep fuel prices down and heat up.
I chose to explore the neighborhood on Sunday. Met a Bohemian group at a thrift store, one of which was a witch! It felt good to be out: Iām becoming too much of a homebody, lately, afraid to go out alone anymore.
I have plenty I can do at home. No complaints, there. Going through previously saved bookmarks to collect things on my computer and get more organized.
No thank you! Thatās one of the reasons Iāve never wanted to move to California. That and the heat in the Southern part of it.
I watched one last night and two this morning! It has begun! ![]()
Iām sorry you have bad memories, though. Thatās got to make things difficult.
Trying to make these particular holidays ājust another dayā is tricky because of the social push and incessant advertizing. However, it does tend to make a good time for yearly shadow work- just at an odd time from everyone else.
Your house sounds absolutely charming!
I love that itās built from stones.
I love this! When we were house-hunting a few years ago, I walked through several and waited for one to speak to me. Finally this little bungalow did (and loudly, too!).
Itās 75 years old - a teenager, compared to your place.
But there was an instant connection.
My husband and I walked back to the sidewalk with the realtor, and I announced what I was willing to pay to make sure our bid got us in. (Itās a competitive market here.) He jumped a little.
But we got in. ![]()
@Feathertip you made me smile. I did the same. I offered the asking price, my husband was not impressed, but he understood.
It was the last house on the list we viewed that day.
It just felt so right to both of us.
That works. The end of one year and the start of the next. Still, I just wanna send you a hug. So ⦠HUG! ![]()
Thank you! ![]()
Youāre welcome, dear heart! I wish I could do more for you!
