I have had multiple mentions of Inari the last few days. First, I colored “The Home of Kitsune” on Loóna, then my husband found an article on Torri gates, then today I got this email.
Inari!
We don’t usually see much about Shinto deities here in the forum, so I was so excited to see this- if you believe Inari might be calling to you, I would definitely say jump in and start learning more, @crystal5!
Shinto was once believed (and may still be believed by some) to be a religion that could only be worshipped from within Japan. However, these days, you can find Shinto shrines outside of Japan located in many places around the world. There are several official Shinto shrines located within the US, for example.
In Japan, most shrines (whether standing on their own or incorporated with a Buddhist temple) are open to the public and are very welcoming to visitors of all nationalities and faiths. One of my favorite adventures when I lived in Japan was visiting shrines and temples, and I actually managed to complete a full Goshuincho stamp book full of shrine/temple seals
Anyways, forgive me for rambling- I’m really excited you feel drawn to Inari, @crystal5! They were one of the first deities to ever hear my prayer and grant a wish, so I’m hoping you are able to reach them as well.
If you have any questions or ever want to chat about Japan, it’s been a while but I’ve spent a lot of time living and studying there- feel free to reach out!
Lots of love and many blessings
Now, l am really feeling drawn! I am surprised to find you have such a passion. I will let you know as I learn more.
A big passion indeed! Of all the countries I’ve been to (20 now), Japan is my favorite. You’re always welcome to reach out to chat about legends/folklore/language/travel/etc there! I could talk about it for hours
Please do! Wishing you all the best with your learning- may you find everything you seek!
