My question for the tarot today was “what should I focus on today?”
I drew the Six of Wands.
Interpretation from Decoding the Cards:
Keywords:success | public recognition | progress | self-confidence
The Six of Wands symbolizes success, achievement, and triumph after hard work. It indicates that you have reached an important goal through meticulous planning and determination, and now you can rightly revel in your accomplishment. You should feel proud and confident and be eager to celebrate with others.
When you see the Six of Wands, you may receive public acknowledgement for reaching a goal. Whether a formal award or simply a pat on the back from a friend or co-worker, this is your victory parade. Be proud of yourself for your accomplishments and allow others to cheer you on.
As you move forward, remember that more work is still needed. Stay focused on the end game and rely on the support of those around you who are rooting for you to succeed.
My thoughts: This all sounds lovely but it just doesn’t resonate with me at all. Other than recently being installed as an officer in the garden club, by virtue of my agreement to take on the position of Recording Secretary after the summer break, I haven’t done anything, or achieved anything that deserves a victory parade. And also, I don’t see how this would be “something I should focus on today”.
Am I looking at this wrong? How would this answer my question for the tarot today? How else could I interpret this?
When i look at affirmations associated with the tarot cards, the six of wands says this:
“I celebrate my victories, acknowledging the journey that brought me here.”
So maybe the cards are just wanting you to be aware of where you are in life and appreciate all that you have gone through to get here in life and in your present capacity. I dont think you have to do anything outstanding for this to be applicable to you. Just surviving life itself counts!
Looking at the card paired with what you’ve written made me think this card is giving you a positive nudge. We’re our own worst critics, aren’t we? While it can easy to celebrate and admire the accomplishments of others, sometimes we just push our own successes under the bridge. We tell ourselves “it’s not enough” or “it’s not that big of a deal”.
It sounds to me like you’ve had a wonderful accomplishment - congrats on being installed as an officer in the garden club! Additionally, I agree with Tory:
Not all accomplishments need to be huge to be worth celebrating. Sometimes a success is getting all your work done for the day. Sometimes a victory is just getting out of bed in the morning when you feel down.
When we stop and look at everything we’ve done - really look at it all - we gain a new sense of appreciation and value for ourselves. This can help lift us up and assist us with doing more wonderful things in the future.
I’d say the Six of Wands was telling you to stop and do some reflection on yourself. To appreciate and find both inspiration and encouragement in what you’ve done, to help carry you forward for the rest of the day. It’s a confidence booster card!
One of the things I try to remember when I’m doing a tarot reading that has a very general question such as yours is that the answer will also likely be very general. So for your question, what you should focus on today and pulling the Six of Wands, it makes sense to me that your interpretation could be somewhere along the lines of how you view success or what your personal achievements are. Or maybe you need to focus on letting yourself celebrate the small victories. It could also be a nod to your progress (or need for progress) regarding your confidence with current goals or plans.
I think the overall lesson here is that a general question will have a general answer. If you try to get too specific with it, you may end up confusing yourself or not seeing the answer for what it is.
