I’m upgrading a few things, trying to find the balance between honouring tradition and discovering how I want to do things. For example, a new stencil set for my BoS, to make it more me; I particularly like this one, perfect for jar spells!
Several of my deity statues were 3D printed from scans of sculptures. My SO has 2 3D printers as it’s his hobby. I have an Artemis doll crocheted by a coven member. The rest I’ve made myself with clay and embellishing them.
I’m another one who doesn’t really have statues per se- after many years of being on the road, a permanent altar doesn’t click with me and my practice. I do have an assortment of small figures that I use as tokens in spellwork. Most of them are souvenirs from travels.
Oh, this is also a good idea! I know some libraries have 3D printers you can use, so if that’s something you’re interested in @Nikki-Phoenix it’s worth checking out.
@Artemisia Wow, talk about bringing technology into magick, that’s awesome! And you have a talent for making statues, those are so lovely and cute, thank you for sharing!
And yet another great idea, using tokens which have meaning seems like a great way to personalise one’s Craft, so thank you!
If your local county library doesn’t have one, check with any colleges in the area, too. They might have one you can use either for free or for a fee. There are so many free 3D printer plans (I’m not quite sure what they’re called) online that you can use, too. I actually have a bookmark for one that has historic statues as 3D printer plans. There are currently almost 3000 models available for download!
Thank you, but to be fair these are 3D scans of actual sculptures in museums that have been digitized into a file that a 3D printer can print. All I really did was find the files and then paint the results! They are really lightweight as they are hollow inside and can be painted any way you like.
My little clay ones are very rewarding to make even if they lack the details of scuptures.
Thank you, Jayne! Your Gaia statue is lovely. So shiny and elegant!
I’m the same way - I haven’t used 3D printing before myself, but seeing how people like Artemisia are making such beautiful statues with it, it makes me want to try too!
I don’t have many statues / figurines, but the picture shows four I use regularly on my altar. I love the larger pair (in the rear)–I found them on Etsy.com (" Wiccan set Moon statue, Triple moon goddess statue, Cernunnos statue, Horned god statue Statues sculptures asatru altar, Norse pagan decor"), and they cost around $160. I really liked the smaller pair too (shown in front – "forest goddess and god), and they were on Temu.com for $5.48 each, although I believe they have been discontinued. Temu has quite a few statues if you search “Wicca statue,” mostly goddesses. It’s more difficult to find the male god, Cernunos, or horned god.
Though not necessary, I find that having objects that represent a concept, feeling, or place help me to focus my thoughts and energy … sort of like going to a cemetery to visit someone who has passed. When I have something concrete to touch or look at, I am better able to direct my energies.
Thanks for replying @stephen, and for sharing your photo and experiences. And I also love the smaller statues, so cute! It seems many people who don’t have statues, have tokens or things that represent aomething to them… definitely something I’m looking into, thanks again!
i’ve gotten some on etsy, amazon, and temu. honestly, temu has the best prices, as far as i’m concerned. they do have a pretty decent selection too, you just have to be specific in the search. i also find it helpful to have something to focus my intentions and energy on.
