New Years Eve Dipped Cookies
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 8 minutes
Servings: 24
Ingredients:
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, at room tempurature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon water
1 cup black candy melts
Gold Star sprinkles
Silver Star sprinkles
White confetti sprinkles
parchment paper
Directions:
Heat oven to 400°F. Combine butter, sugar, egg and extract in a large mixing bowl.
Blend at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour and salt, and blend at low speed until well mixed.
Divide and use food coloring by mixing in each color.
To make the cookies, insert a 1M tip into pastry bag. Fill bag with cookie dough. If it’s hard to pipe add the 1 tablespoon water. Warming the piping bag with your hands will help to pipe out the cookies.
Pipe cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake cookies for 5 to 8 minutes, or until slightly golden.
Remove to a cookie rack and let cool.
Melt black candy melts in the microwave as directed.
Carefully dip the cookies into the black candy melts and place on rack to dry. Sprinkle top of the cookie with star sprinkles.
Repeat for all cookies and let fully dry before serving.
Notes:
Pro Tips and Timesaver Shortcuts:
Use softened butter for easy blending. Leave butter at room temperature for at least 15 minutes or place in the microwave for not more than a few seconds.
Make the sugar cookie dough ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. You can use it to quickly make this recipe, just let the dough soften before piping.
Variations, Notes, and Substitutions:
You can substitute white chocolate chips for the candy melts and top with black confetti sprinkles for a cool black and white theme.
Vanilla extract can be substituted with peppermint, rum, coconut, or any other flavor extract
If you have leftover candy melts, make some festive covered pretzels with the same sprinkles. This looks great on a dessert bar.
Serving and Storage Suggestions:
Serve on a cookie plate or tiered tray. These also look great on a dessert bar.
Store leftovers in an airtight container. I like to use freezer-safe plastic bags and then I have a meal that is ready to go.
