I got an easel for my Christmas so I thought I’ll give it a go and since I love moons and trees I painted this. Had thought of a background but I think I will leave it as it is. Been trying to make more time for myself and I love nothing better than trying out new paintings. I’m not an artist but I think this one is my favourite so far.
A wise is person once told me when you’re feeling stressed draw and I couldn’t agree more!
I used to do a lot of art, not very well, but I enjoyed it. Since starting on my witchy path though, I’ve realized that my art has taken a back seat. I need to find a way to work it back in to my daily practice.
I love it - well done! No worries about art lessons; they might only confuse you. You have a lovely touch.
I find it near impossible to add backgrounds after the subject is already done - it worked better for me to think out the whole thing, start with the background and do the subject around it or over it later.
This is so gorgeous it needs nothing but your signature. I hope you share some more of your work!
Speaking of Picasso:
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
The work I’ve seen from you is lovely! Your watercolors are beautiful. I’m also thinking of your crafted Yule pentacles, which speaks of art to me. They are amazing!
You may not be engaging daily, but it’s still right there! I’d love to see more!
Thank you so much. I struggle with backgrounds it’s the blending and then it always ends up looking terrible. I went through so many canvases that I decided to do it on watercolour paper to practice. Any tips
You’re very welcome, love! I don’t think you need any tips from me; this piece is a beauty!
With backgrounds I can only repeat that, if you want something there, it’s a good idea to put it there first. You could even sketch out your painting first just to see if you really like the extra elements you’re adding.
My only painting media is oil pastels; they make blending easier. I’ve not used regular oils or watercolor. A bit of acrylic paints here and there. I like that they dry quickly so it’s easier to paint over or around them without messing things up.
Your piece is strong and beautiful all by itself. It might be that this is the best way for you, and that’s why you found backgrounds challenging - you may not need them at all.
Aww thank you i never thought of it that way before. Maybe you’re right I seem to be ok at drawing. Maybe I could start doing art this more often and maybe sell them to make extra cash and others may also enjoy my work. Just not sure if anyone would buy as there are lots of artists out there
There are lots of artists out there, but you’re the only one who can make YOUR art.
Enjoy it and keep exploring. Take care of the pieces you like. There are often places like coffee shops or cafes that are happy to showcase local artists; you’ll know best where to try.
But! Enjoy the art for what it brings you before you think about trying to monetize it. Enjoy the journey, lovely!
Gorgeous piece, @kirsty4! I really like how the branches curve into a circle. The combination of the tree and the circle makes me think of cycles and the seasons, and how things develop over time. It’s a very nice piece - beautiful work!
