Before You Burn Palo Santo…There’s something you should know.
True, ethical Palo Santo does NOT come from trees that are cut down while they’re still alive.
Traditionally speaking, the wood comes from trees that fell on their own. Then the wood is left to sit and cure in the forest for years.
Look for Palo Santo that was harvested sustainably from fallen trees that were allowed to complete their life cycle before harvesting. Ask where your wood is sourced from and if it was harvested ethically.
When working with any sacred plant or wood, we have a duty to honor where it comes from.

Do you work with palo santo? I use it often and I think I have had the same stick for 10 months lol.

I have worked with Palo Santo. I have only purchased it one time, but I really really love the woodsy aroma it emits. I like it a lot better than the smell of any other sage or cleansing stick. I’ve heard it’s considered a tool of closed practices, but that was of course after I used it, so I never purchased again. Instead, I purchased black sage cleansing sticks (mugwort) and it’s worked phenomenally. Doesn’t smell as great as the Palo Santo, but I’m not burning it for the smell anyways, so what does that matter? 
I really did enjoy the smell though. I wish I could make a Palo Santo spray that was not a “closed practice” tool. I don’t know what it was about it, but I genuinely really enjoyed it, but my joy or love for it is not more superior than my moral respect for any closed practice…
But that smell…

Using palo santo is not a closed practice. There are shamanic rituals that use palo santo in those rituals. The ritual itself is a closed practice but palo santo is NOT closed to use.
There is no plant on earth closed to anyone. It’s HOW YOU USE it that may or may not be a closed practice.
PS - I want to add…you should aLWAYS use respect when using any plant or tree. Be grateful for the energy and create a connect with it. Don’t just “use” something to use it. Create a “relationship” with whatever tools you bring into your practices.

I do not use Palo Santo in any rituals. My first option would always be to do any spell work outside unless it is raining or windy if I am using a candle. Otherwise I just use the ventilation (element of air)and ring a bell to dispel any energies only if i need to. We have to be mindful of scrupulous people as the internet. I also think that there can be too much focus of clearing energy unless it is heavy and you are doing certain rituals ventilation should be adequate.
I have a sign in my window which says it it all. I do make charity donations with my Grocery Shopping App whereby I change it every month to different ones, Marine & Ocean Conservation/Protection, The National Trust which plants Trees, RSPCA & Wildlife. I take my clothes to our Local Grocery Store who have Bins for The Salvation Army which supports the Homeless in many ways and which my late Nana was a member. I just think that posting plastic bags has environmental damage ending up in areas where they should not be and I know that my donations are going directly to the Charity not a third party.
Sorry to everyone if I was on a rant and I do understand that every Witch has their own tools which are sacred so I am not against the use of Palo Santo it is just not for me.
