Hi, I have always had difficulty balancing visualizing what I want or putting my desires out into the universe and not getting obsessed by my dreams and desires especially when it comes to love. Often when I start to feel obsessive tendencies I stop them by telling myself negative things, like “that would never happen” or “they could never feel the same way” etc. How do I ask the universe for what I want without building up the thoughts in my head too much and then accidentally cursing myself in the process?
One trick I was taught in my younger study years is to go on with other business and daily life as though you had never made the spell or wish. Sometimes that’s easier said than done. Does anyone else have any ideas?
Free time is good for watching movies, listening to music and dancing, catching up on all those things we had to leave behind during the busy times, organizing, crafting, contacting those absent from our lives, and self care. Enjoy your time! You deserve it!
I think the first thing you’d benefit from is figuring out where the obsessiveness comes from and why your thoughts go that route. If you constantly want something to the point you become obsessed, then it is likely that your desire has reached an unhealthy level and would be better dealt with in a mundane manner first.
This could be a contributing factor. You have nothing to fill your day with, so your thoughts stay on what you want rather than what you can do in the moment.
Let’s say you’re casting a spell to get a specific job. You do the spell, but then you become so focused on the outcome that you don’t take the practical steps necessary to achieve the goal. The negative self-talk will likely get in the way, but I don’t think it’s as big of an issue as the obsession is.
Try making a list of the practical steps you need to take in order for your spell to work. Using the job as an example, you might need to learn a new skill, meet a specific person, or be somewhere at a specific time and day. Those are all things you can do outside of the spell to help the spell work.
You might also benefit from writing down little goals and markers of progress. It can be hard to see the progress we’re making if we only look at the big picture. If you’re goal is to get hired at a specific company, little goals that you can track progress for might include meeting an employee there, getting an interview, learning more about the hiring process, checking your skills against the job description, etc.
If you still can’t let the obsession go, then I would advise putting the spellwork and visualization down while you work on the mental health side of your life. Obsession can very easily turn toxic and unhealthy.
