Life can overwhelm us, we can rush from one to-do list to another, or it can make us feel it’s all too much. We stand and stare at life. Can we slow it all down? I say we can.
Here’s a little thing we can do each night/day.
You’ll need:
A mug, a favourite mug or a mug you’ve specifically purchased just for this. It must mean something to you, and be kept specifically for this ritual.
A teaspoon.
A place to sit either in candle light or with a lamp. No ceiling lights.
You are going to take a normal everyday task that you probably do everyday and stretch it out, this will awaken your clairs (senses).
This is for the evening or early morning when it’s still dark, whichever part of the day suits you, so you can re-set your rhythm.
Ok. Ready? Brew you favourite drink, it needs to be a hot brew.
Now sit by your candles or lamp, with your brew and your teaspoon. Stir your brew nice and slowly, and let the steam rise. Look at the steam. Can you see shapes, patterns. Can you hear the quiet swish of the brew in the cup, the clank of the spoon against the cup. As you sip the brew, feel the heat and follow it as it travels through your body, tune into your taste, and experience all the different flavours.
We are stretching out a simple cuppa for the day, we are slowing down life. By using the same mug, you will associate this mug with this piece of magic. It should take all of the time you take to drink a brew plus a few more minutes, or you can spend longer. It’s up to you.
By doing this little brew each day, you will enhance your clairs and start to notice other small things in your day, that you can also slow down, giving your mind, body and spirit a nice little re-set.
