I’ve got several used candles that come in those glass jars and I was thinking that rather than throw them away, I could remove the wax from them, clean them and use them for jar spells, as a substitute for until I can get the regular glass bottles that most use for their jar spells. Would this be a good idea? I was also wondering if using the leftover wax would be good/safe to use, or to toss it away.
I use my left over beeswax to seal spell jars good job upcycling your stuff i love to reuse jars
Ooh I have some beeswax I haven’t used yet, so I can seal my candle jars with it. Thank you for the suggestion
And yeah, I like upcycling things for my spellwork and arts & crafts x3
You can absolutely use them for jar spells! I think that’s a great way to reduce/reuse/recycle! The leftover wax would also be okay to use to make new candles as long as the wax types are similar or compatible. I’ve had success doing this but I’ve also had a candle that would put off too much heat or smoke or whatever and always set off my smoke alarms
Oh my Gods, this is a great idea I’ve never thought about that before!
Thank you~! I’m thinking about using the leftover wax for new candles and to make wax seal stamps for my fairy-themed junk journal and my grimoires. I’ll be sure to keep the heat in mind. Safety first!
I’m seconding Celineelise and MeganB - I think that giving a new life to your used candle jars is a lovely idea! It’s thrifty and sustainable, a win-win
As for the wax, it can be tough to get out of the jars, but if you can save any of it, I’m with Megan - used spell ingredients can be incorporated to spells of a similar nature. Or, like Celineelise mentioned, given other purposes - such as for sealing or in spells or other crafts.
Good luck and happy crafting, @Nhaama!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
An update on the process:
I tried several methods to remove the wax from my old candle jar but none of them worked for me until I tried this method I thought of on the spot:
Remove the lid from your candle jar and set it aside. Place the candle jar in a glass or ceramic bowl. Boil some water either on the stove or in the microwave, then pour the water inside your candle jar while leaving a little space on top, then carefully pour the rest of the water around it inside the bowl. Wait for an hour, then carefully remove the candle jar from the bowl, take a knife, remove the top layer of wax that’ll form from the heat of the water, and then you can remove the wax easily from the inside. The heat from the water softens the wax making it easier to remove.
So now I have a shiny new bottle for my spellwork and plenty of wax to use for what I need it for! Yay!
That’s a perfect method - one I use myself! Sometimes, popping the glass in the freezer will work to harden the wax so it just comes right out.
I’m so glad this method worked for me~! And I will try the freezer next time
I’ve got several more jars to work on so I’ll be quite busy today x3
Mission success!
I’m glad you’ve got your wax and your bottle - they look ready to go! Have fun with them and happy crafting
Thank you~! I’m going to use the leftover wax for stamp seals, new candles, and wax melts
All fun projects! I’m sure your repurposed wax will serve you well in your crafting
