Let’s talk about Anger as a Teacher, Protector and Force of Transformation
Many of us were taught that anger is something to fear, avoid or suppress.
We were told to stay calm, be nice, keep the peace, and shove our feelings aside.
Over time, many people learned to view anger as a flaw rather than a natural human experience.
BUT…
what if anger isn’t the energy after all?
What is anger is a messenger?
At it’s core, anger often arises when something important has been violated. A boundary has been crossed. A wound that been touched. A need has gone unmet. Anger is the fire that says, PAY ATTENTION! SOMETHING MATTERS HERE!
That is what many spiritual traditions refer to as, sacred rage.
Sacred rage is not uncontrolled outbursts, cruelty or revenge - it is the fierce energy that arises when we recognize our worth and refuse to abandon ourselves any longer.
It is that inner voice that says…
this is not acceptable. I deserve better, my boundaries matter, and my pain deserves acknowledgment.
When honored rather than suppressed, anger can become a powerful teacher, It can reveal where we have been overgiving, where we have stayed silent and where healing is still needed.
It can also become a protector
Healthy anger helps us establish boundaries, leave unhealthy situations, speak our truth and reclaim parts of our self that have been diminished by fear, guilt or obligation. Most importantly, anger can be a force of transformation.
Like fire in nature, it has the power to clear away what no longer serves, us, creating space for something new to emerger.
The goal is not to live in anger. The goal is to understand what it is trying to teach us.
Perhaps your anger is not asking to be buried. Perhaps it is asking to be heard.
