I’ve been pondering for a while about my identity as a witch. I think I finally have it figured out. I’m a hearth witch. This fits so well with how I work, what I do and how I think.
I know it sounds silly to need a label, but it is important to me. I spent many years in the fog of mental illness not knowing what was wrong, who I was and how I fitted into the world, all whilst coping as a new mum!! This has left me with a need to have an identity. After eight or so years I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. This was my label, but it meant I could explain who I was, where I stood in the world and why I am like I am.
To me this is the same for my witchcraft. To have something to identify as is grounding, centering and gives me my place in the world - a world I have struggled to fit in with.
So I’ a happy hearth witch with direction and purpose, and a feeling of knowing who I am again.

That’s just beautiful, @LilithKitty.
I don’t think it’s silly at ALL to explore your identity, which is so much more complex and intimate than “needing a label.” Please don’t minimize your journey of self-discovery or let anyone else do it, either.
We go through our lives getting some education, finding a way to pay our bills, shopping pretty much at the same kind of stores - it’s easy (and tragic) to discover that somewhere along the line we’ve become buttonholed into society’s version of who we are. And it takes a strong will to push back when that identity doesn’t fit or no longer serves you.
It sounds like you’ve been through a lot on your journey of self-discovery! I applaud your strength!
So mote it be!

It’s important to have a Name. I’ve talked about it before I think, but the wonderful children’s book A Wind in the Door by the wonderful Madeleine L’Engle, is all about Naming. There are terrible creatures attacking the Universe, and destroying people’s Name so they no longer know who they are. Namers are needed to help remind these people of their purpose.
So totally get needing a Name. I’m glad you’ve found who you are! That’s so wonderful! Congratulations!

A Name is so much more than a label. It suggests a place, fitting in, being someone when the rest of the world wants to take all that from you.
Once you get that Name, it’s a first step into a larger world. When we step beyond, we create a whole new world no one ever thought of before. We grow out of the Name, eventually, but it is a necessary stepping stone which opens so much more!
Enjoy!
