Shadow work beginner

Hello!!! I have been working learning to do shadow work but seem to got in a slump. I got a ton of workbooks for it but it doesn’t seem to help me. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions that can help me a little more with it? Thank you in advance

Hi Michele,
Is there something specifically you are stuck on? I know shadow-work is private, thought I would try and ask to see how I can help.

Thoughtful Thursday Michele,

When I need some deep shadow work, I use minimal candle light in a dark bathroom and stare at myself in the mirror. I let whatever come, in, and just let things flow. I stay about 10 minutes or whenever is enough. Then think on it for the next week. Journal, tarot, oblations….what-have-you….don’t know if this will help, but good luck!!

It could be that your subconscious is needing a break. It is easy to get excited over a relatively new practice and want to continue. However, part of you may need to regroup and find strength or to process what you’ve already done before the next layer.

Such built in rest periods are common in shadow work. Enjoy them whenever you can. It means you are making progress, though it feels stagnant.

Pushing could lead to a depth you aren’t quite ready for yet. You may think you’re ready, but your subconscious knows both the conscious and the shadow far better than the conscious does. Trust it.

This may or may not resonate. If you feel the stagnancy is an attempt to avoid the work, the opposite is indicated. Dive in. Face fears. Sorry to present opposing ideas, but only you can know.

Im not really sure to be honest how to even start it. I know that I have a lot of things that have happened to me when I was younger and I need to help myself get worked on with it. The work books I have seem to have me more confused than to anything

Many people realize they need shadow work when they notice they have reacted strangely to some external stimulus and wonder why. That reaction is the opening. They start digging through cause and effect and notice connections to memories. These memories are ah-ha moments. Some need acknowledgement, others request forgiveness, and a few are path markers deeper down the rabbit hole.

For example, I was at coffee clutch Wednesday when one person mentioned murder mysteries she reads. I let her know gently that I prefer mysteries based on theft. Another took up the murder theme and got graphic. I felt nauseated and tried to change the subject more toward the ghost experience. Why did I get nauseated? I had a dream in the 1980’s which was downright gory, which sometimes comes up in my memory. Do I need to redefine it? I once calmed myself by acknowledging it was teenage angst and an attempt to free myself from things pressed upon me from outside. Then why does it still pop up? Do I need to forgive something or someone? This is my shadow for the time being. It could mean I have a part of my character which I am not accepting, and it wants to come out- either to play or to protect the rest of me.

Does this help any?

Fabulous Friday Michele,

I know it is always easier said than done; however, I have had to move forward after my coma. This is how I approached the situation. I have few memories of the past (the ones I retained are all bad…as most of my childhood, which is basically all that I can remember). While watching Touched by an Angel, the angel played by Valerie Bertinelli, is actually spoken into existence as we watch. How does she deal with no past, and not knowing anything about society/people/humanity as a full grown sentient being? With joy and wonder, 0-The Fool. So, I have taken that approach. Everything in my past is now gone (since most was wiped out with my TBI/coma, I just choose to “forget” those [bad ones] memories too). I look at every moment with what I have described for myself as “new eyes, but old soul”…as opposed to people who are young [new] with an old soul. I have the “old soul” from imbedded experiences, but I have the “new eyes” from awakening, and I do not allow my “old soul” to taint the way my “new eyes” see things. If you can understand, I hope this helps out.

Yes it does. Thank you for sharing. I get that way with certain people and things that they do to me and that is what started my wanting to learn and work on shadow work
