Sharing my improved besom and new smudging fan

Yes the course is called cert. II in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles. I think there are 3 TAFE locations that do the course. It is for ruffly 5 months 2 days a week and for me it was subsidied so only paid $160 for a $9000 course (thats most likely for overseas full price paying students). Theres also cert. III and diploma which can go on to a business cert. too in the fututre. Certain subjects can be trasfered over drom certs so you sont do it again in the next one (RPL). Its a pattern making, sewing fashion course so the aim is to teach students the veey basics from scratch (cert. II) , so they can make their own patterns and sew, leading to a career in the fashion industry if wanted. In the diploma ypu make a garment and you present it on a model in a fashion show (legit one).
It is totally worth it but me as a full time mum, carer, pet owner, karate student, etc, it takes up all my free time. So far i have learned to sew in differnt directions, create new patterns with knowledge of seam allowences and dart manipulation, creat fashion designs from a mood board theme i created relative to current fashion…

That sounds awesome! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: If I had time to spare, I would consider joining you. But I will have to delay this.

100%. That’s why we love international students.

I used to teach at the TAFE in Ultimo for a little while. :slightly_smiling_face: But my TAE certification is out of date now…

Wow no kidding that’s amazing! I would have loved to do something like this but unfortunately for me most jobs these days don’t care if you are over qualified for a job if you lack the experience that is the deal-breaker :pensive:

Yep. You need 10 years of experience just to be entry-level these days. :woman_facepalming:

I’ve seen an advertisement for a position that required more years of experience with the tech than the number of years that the tech had been in existence. So, it’s like you had to travel back in time to double up on your experience or something.

With TAFE (an Australian vocational education and training provider), you just need the Training and Assessment (TAE) certificate and some kind of qualification related to what you want to teach. It’s nowhere near as strict as teaching at university would be. I got my way in using RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) and a six-month diploma.

(Added the explanations in parentheses for those browsing past and aren’t familiar with what we’re talking about.)

Omg are you serious?! :astonished: I guess i better try to remember what my qualifications were in my past life lol :woman_facepalming:  That will have to count for something

That’s great! Man i would love to have a job that i am so passionate about and can be accepted in with my past certs such as age care, disability, healthcare assistance, Bachelor of Community services and now learning cert II in Apparel, Fashion and textiles… I felt i needed a change because yes i can get a job in a place such as an aged care facility private to be specific, but i can’t take how bad they are treating the residents there and how i have been treated even after giving away a part of my soul not to mention time for the job, then to be treated by workers and managers as scum as i chose to work night shift to earn more for my 5 dependants (including hubby as he can’t work)!
Any how, i how my passion for fashion and love of sewing will get me somewhere even if i work in a factory with decent pay to support 5 people i would be content… I would loveeeee to have my own fashion line, but that is another story
