🐍 Skin-Shedding Spell Jar

A ritual recipe for releasing what no longer fits and honoring the self that is emerging.

:honey_pot: Ingredients

  • 1 small jar with lid (clear if you want to witness the layering)
  • Dried herbs for release (sage, rosemary, bay leaf, lavender, thyme, cinnamon)
  • Something brittle or breakable (dried leaves, eggshell, old tree bark) — symbol of the old shell
  • A small piece of paper
  • Pen
  • String, thread, or twine
  • A personal item tied to the “old you” (optional—be mindful, this won’t be retrieved)
  • Black candle (for release) or white candle (for transformation)
  • Matches or lighter
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional: a small crystal (obsidian for release, clear quartz for transformation)

:bowl_with_spoon: Preparation

Cleanse your space however feels right—smoke, sound, breath, or simple intention.

Hold the empty jar and sit with it for a moment.
This jar is not a container of loss.
It is a container of evolution and transformation.

:kitchen_knife: Step 1: Name What You’re Shedding

On your piece of paper, write:

  • habits you’re outgrowing
  • identities that feel too tight
  • beliefs that no longer belong to you

Be honest. Be specific. This is the skin that no longer breathes.

Fold the paper away from you (sending it out).

:herb: Step 2: Build the Layers

Begin filling your jar slowly, intentionally:

  • Salt (base layer)
  • For grounding and purification. A clean beginning.
  • Herbs
  • Speak softly as you add them: “I release, I soften, I let this fall away.”
  • Breakable Element: Crush it slightly in your hand before placing it in. Feel the “shell” cracking.
  • Your Written Paper: Place it inside without unfolding.

Optional Personal Item: Only if you’re truly ready to release the attachment.
Crystal (if using): To anchor the transformation.

:thread: Step 3: Bind It

Wrap string or thread around the jar a few times.

As you do, say: “What once held me, no longer defines me. What once was mine, I now release with grace.”

Tie it off with intention—not tight, just secure.

:fire: Step 4: Seal with Wax

Light your candle.

Hold the jar and focus on the version of you that is emerging, not the one you’re leaving.

Drip wax over the lid, sealing it.

As the wax falls, say: “This skin is shed. This chapter is sealed. I do not return to what I have outgrown.”

Let the wax cool completely.

:crescent_moon: Step 5: Placement

Place the jar somewhere intentional:

Hidden away if this is private transformation
On an altar if you want to witness the change

and remember…You are not abandoning parts of yourself. You are honoring that they got you here…and choosing not to live inside them anymore. Even though we release old parts of ourselves, we should not “forget” those parts. We have to honor them as they protected us and help shaped us through life to get where we are standing now.

Blessed be.

@SilverBear what a powerful spell thank you. I have scheduled this in for this week. It is lovely reminder to look after my needs.

This is a good one! I just did the release spell at Beltane, so I will give it some time to manifest. But I am saving this one for sure!

Oh, I definitely love this! I will be buying some more candles on Friday (I’m completely fresh out) so I can do this spell on Saturday!

Before I do, I just have one question?

You said black for Release and white for transformation, but what if I wanted to do both? Could I possibly buy like white and black birthday candles and just burn them both on top of my jar at the exact same time, or is the working only meant to handle one focused thi ng at a time?

I know some practitioners say not to try to over load a single working with too many different goals or outcomes I guess, but im just wondering if this is different because it CAN be for transformation or it can be for release.. I really think I need both , honestly.

But I also don’t want to confuse the universe.

If I have to make 2 seperate jars, that’s fine. I figured I’d just ask your opinion before creating it.

By the way, EXCEPTIONAL WORK , love! :purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart:

This is just :pinched_fingers::pinched_fingers::pinched_fingers:

Personally I do one intention per jar.
