VARIATIONS:
This fun slime popcorn recipe gets its intense green color from neon green food gel. Make it your own with any of these variations!
Lollipops. Shape popcorn into balls and attach them to a lollipop stick.
Red hots. Add a few red hot candies or Halloween sprinkles to the mixture, but be sure you don’t add too many mix-ins that there isn’t enough marshmallow goo to cover everything.
Unicorn popcorn. Change up the color (try pink!) and add rainbow sprinkles. Or try a variation of your own!
TIPS + Storing:
To prevent sticking. The gooey marshmallow popcorn will be sticky. Wet hands help keep the gooey mixture from sticking to them. You can also spray them with cooking spray and utilize a silicone spatula.
Popcorn. Be sure to use plain popcorn, not buttered or kettle corn-flavored popcorn. If you wish to air pop your own kernels, you will need ⅓ cup of unpopped kernels to yield about 10 cups of popped corn.
Marshmallows. You will need 16 oz of marshmallows. They can be mini marshmallows or jumbo-sized. Marshmallows must be fresh; otherwise, the popcorn mixture can set too hard. So save that bag in the back of the pantry to put in some
STORE. The slime popcorn can be stored in an airtight container, or wrap individual balls tightly with plastic wrap. It is best when consumed within 2 days, but it can last for 5 days.
Recipe FAQ
Can I use an air popper to make popcorn slime?
For ease, I used microwave bags of plain popcorn; however, you can easily use an air popper. You will need ⅓ cup of unpopped kernels to yield about 10 cups of popped corn.
Why is my popcorn slime too hard to eat?
Using old marshmallows or overcooking the marshmallows can cause the mixture to harden into a treat that is just too hard to eat.
What kind of food coloring do I use to make slime popcorn?
The intense green coloring in my slime popcorn came from using neon green food gel. If you use regular green food dye, the coloring will be more of a light green.
