A Witch’s Ritual for an Overactive Nervous System

Do you ever feel like…your heart races when nothing is wrong…your shoulders have taken residence around your ears…mind won’t stop scanning for danger…or things that are wrong?

This isn’t weakness. It’s a nervous system that forgot it’s safe.

Tonight, we remind it.

This spell is for protection — not from spirits or enemies — but from overwhelm, hypervigilance, and the constant hum of “too much.” This give you a chance to reset…to take a breath. To come back to yourself.

:sparkles: What You’ll Need

A small bowl of water

A pinch of salt

Lavender, chamomile, or rosemary (fresh or dried)

A white or blue candle

A small stone (obsidian for protection or rose quartz for softness)

A quiet space

Optional: soft music, dim lights, your favorite cozy layer.

:crescent_moon: Step 1: Cast a Circle of Safety

Light your candle.

Place your hand over your heart and say:

“In this moment, I choose safety. I choose slowness. I choose peace.I choose now.”

Imagine a soft dome of light forming around you — not rigid, but warm and breathable. This is your nervous system shield. Nothing urgent lives here.

:herb: Step 2: Calm the Waters

Add the salt and herbs to your bowl of water.

Stir clockwise with your finger and whisper: “Waters of my body, be still. Heart of mine, beat steady. Breath of mine, move easy.”

As you stir, slow your breathing intentionally: Inhale for 4. Hold for 4. Exhale for 6

(That longer exhale tells your body it’s safe.)

Do this for all long as you feel it’s needed…there is no right or wrong amount of times. Just listen to what you need.

Hold your stone in both hands.

Picture all the static, tension, buzzing energy leaving your body and flowing into the stone.

Say: “I release the charge of survival. I am no longer in danger. My body is allowed to rest. I am safe. I am safe. I am safe.”

Dip your fingers into the water and gently touch:

Your forehead

Your throat

Your heart

This seals the spell.

Sit quietly for 2–5 minutes.

Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly.

Whisper: “Peace is my protection. Regulation is my power. Stillness is safe. I am safe. I am safe. I am safe.”

Allow your body to soften….Even 2% softer counts.

:candle: Aftercare

Pour the water outside as an offering. Thank Mother Earth for receiving.

Keep the stone near your bed or carry it during stressful moments.

Repeat this ritual for 7 nights if your system feels especially activated.

An overactive nervous system isn’t a flaw. It’s often the mark of someone who had to be strong for too long. Protection magick doesn’t always look like banishing. Sometimes it looks like teaching your body how to exhale again.

As someone with CPTSD this is going into my BOS and I will try it for sure. I don´t have to wait for a super stressful situation. I´ll do this right away because it´s difficult for my nervous system to regulate after an anverage work day. :purple_heart:
