Spirit in my Home

Recently, my husband and I have discovered that have at least one spirit in our home. His parents are the original owners and no one has passed away in the home. The spirit has made itself visible to my husband at the end of the hallway outside our bedroom door, but right now I just get sensations. For example, I was on a therapy video call in our bedroom and the temperature dropped drastically and the technology for the video call was affected. It lasted less than two minutes, so my therapist and I (my therapist is an eclectic Pagan) determined that the spirit was possibly just passing through.

Here are where my questions come in.

How did we get a spirit in the house? Did it attach to one of us? I know that I feel emotions deeply and my therapist wondered if it was latching onto me but if she was, then why reveal herself to my husband and not me?

Should I do anything about it? The spirit hasn’t bothered us other than moving things or opening things. It doesn’t seem malevolent. Should I just let it be or should I do a cleansing of some sort? Or should I reach out and try to find out who it is and if it needs something?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ask the spirit. Be gentle and respectful. If it has not been malevolent, it probably won’t be unless it is mistreated. Ask if it is here to request help or to offer assistance. There is another option: neither. No harm, no foul. If you need to, set boundaries like keeping distance while on the phone with the therapist. Other times, let them interact with you. If the spirit moves your car keys and you need them, ask the spirit to guide you to them. Maybe it wants to be part of life or to be considered helpful in some way. Make friends just like you would with a coworker or neighbor and keep your promises.

I agree with @georgia She gave you some great advice here.

Just want to add a little. When I notice a spirit in the house I always like to ask it’s name so I can talk to it properly. Most of the time they will give me their name, sometimes they won’t. I like to use my ouija board to communicate with them. If they aren’t malevolent I let them stay. Sometimes they are just there to guide you and will leave when their job is done. Other times I find they are lost and need help to continue on their journey. I have one that was here when I moved in 6 years ago. It’s very pleasant and like to move things occasionally.

Enjoy your new spirit! I hope you are able to speak to it and get some information! If you would like it would be fun to learn if you’ve learned anything! Keep us posted in here!

There are no hard and fast rules or beliefs when it comes to spirit interactions, so how it happens and what you should do will be largely influenced by your own beliefs.

I believe that spirits can travel the Earth just like we do, moving freely from place to place whenever they want. They aren’t bound by the physical laws of the world, such as solid objects, space, and time, and therefore might have found themselves in your home by mistake or on their travels.

I also believe that spirits can be tied to objects, places, and people. This can be a choice they make or one that is made for them depending on the nature of their spirithood. For example, I believe that a spirit who was once human but died tragically may find themselves tied to the place of their death. A person who died and wasn’t ready to move on may find themselves tied to a place or favorite object.

Spirits may also hitch a ride with living people, attaching to our energy and using us as a sort of public transportation system and energy source. This can be done with malicious intentions or it can be done for the sake of convenience - maybe they just like you.

Then there are non-human spirits. These are spirits that were never corporeal, who never lived on Earth as a human. These spirits may include land spirits, deities, transient energies, plant spirits, etc. There are too many non-human spirit categories to list, but the general point is that spirits aren’t necessarily people who have passed on.

She may not have “revealed” herself, so to speak. Your husband may be more prone to seeing physical manifestations of spirits while you are more prone to sensing them. Spirits can reveal themselves to us for any number of reasons. They may be looking for help, lonely, bored, etc. They don’t often have the same motivations as living humans, but they can.

As for if you should do anything about it, that’s entirely up to you. Personally, I wouldn’t try to cleanse a spirit from my home unless they were affecting me in a negative way. As @georgia said, the easiest way to figure this out is to try communicating with the spirit. She may not communicate with you, but trying is always a good option.

It’s possible that this spirit just wants you to know she’s there so you don’t freak out if something happens, such as opening things or moving things. She may have a message for you, or she may be looking for company. She may not want any of these things and instead wants to exist in peace without being bothered.
