Spiritual Meaning of Seeing a Hawk

Over the past week, Eric and I have seen the same juvenile Red Shouldered Hawk either sitting on our fence or in the crepe myrtle tree.

At first I assumed he was waiting for the doves to arrive at the feeders, as there was evidence, in the form of two piles of feathers, that he had dined well in our back yard.

But then I thought there might be more to it so I did a search. Turns out there are a lot of websites that talk about the spiritual significance of seeing hawks, especially when you see them up close like that.

This is the AI summary provided by Google:

Nice pics of your yard raptor!

We have hawks everywhere so I never thought of them being special - though I love their presence. Raptors are everywhere in our farm country. Eagles, and owls are easy to find, too.

They are amazing creatures so I embrace them as nature’s gift. Here is a close up of a Red Tail that I consider our ‘traffic manager’. For a couple of decades, he and his ancestors have maintained vigilance on a busy highway near us. They can always be found - and they are not upset if I try to get near (within 150 feet or so). Nature is so cool!

Yea, this area used to be all wooded, but has been systematically cleared and built on :frowning: (outer edges of Houston, what can I say?)

I still see and hear hawks flying overhead, but it was just so strange to see one sitting so still on the fence or in tree, for what seemed like forever. He even stayed there when I went out in to the back yard and got within 10 or 15 feet of him. The second photo is him letting me know I was getting too close.

Wow. That’s so amazing! I saw a hawk that close just once, a long time ago. It was very special. I’m glad you got pictures of yours!

We have hawks everywhere too! I can’t recall having any of them pop on our fence and our trees are very, very tall pine trees that makes it hard to see anyone up close. I love it when I can hear them, though! Thank you for the great summary!
