During my candle magick during Litha…within the flame I witnessed a black door opening up to an amazing beam of white light …then all of a sudden a spirit got in my face…hugged me and said " I will protect you".
What does this mean?
Was I hallucinating??
Can anyone interpret this for me???

Did you say any prayers cast a circle. Ask for any help or advice?
Wow, how exciting. Doors opening can mean new opportunities. You could do a card reading or pendulum reading and ask who made contact?
If you weren’t taking anything that could cause an hallucination, then it probably isn’t. Deep meditation and trance can bring you into contact with spirit. I’d want to know who it is? 
As a side note (and I’m not saying this was a hallucination that @megan4 had at all) I have hallucinated from lack of sleep. No drugs, legal or otherwise. In college, I often stayed up through the night cramming for a test or writing a paper. One such night I was sitting in the dorm loo when I saw black and white snow flowing under the stall door. Even waved my hand through it to see if it was real. It was not.

If your over studying and becoming weak from it. It could have met your real guardian sprit making sure your ok from being overwhelmed with school and life
It’s protecting your health
That was the strange thing about it…there was no circle casting or prayer said…just intensely stared at the flame…well with carnelian in my hand…feel like that is a Litha crystal for some weird reason.
The person who is going to best answer this is you. If you weren’t under the influence of anything that could cause hallucinations (such as drugs, alcohol, lack of sleep, medication, etc.) then it is entirely possible this was a religious or spiritual experience. It’s important to ask yourself how you felt during the encounter. That will be a big clue with your intuition to help you figure out what happened.
It’s also important to keep in mind what kind of spell you were doing. You said this was during your candle magick on Litha. Was there a specific intention you were focusing on? If so, this will also give you a clue into what happened.
I was working on protection at the time…but that was it.
It’s very possible that it’s a spirit of some sort who came to show you that you’re protected. That makes a lot of sense.
