Synchronicity

I received this in my email a couple of days ago. I’d never heard of danger connected with synchronicity before. What do you all think?

Synchronistic Caution- Jeff Brown
In my initial spiritual phase, I imagined that all manner of synchronicity was benevolently intended. I was inclined to believe that God or the Universe or whatever you call it, was setting things up for my benefit. And then life happened, and I learned otherwise. One thing is now clear—it isn’t difficult to recognize something that feels synchronistic. What is difficult is knowing if it is designed to help you, or hinder you. In 2015, I included the following quote in my book ‘Spiritual Graffiti’. I had clearly learned the lesson:
“Just because we feel a kind of soul feeling with someone doesn’t mean we should explore it. It doesn’t mean we should jump on in, even if we are hungry for that kind of connection. I used to explore and attach whenever I felt a soulular resonance with someone, but experience taught me to be more careful. Because resonance alone does not tell you if the path is going to be an additive one, any more than synchronicity tells you which way to walk. Just because there is a strong energetic pull to someone doesn’t mean its a good thing. Just because the universe seems to be bringing you together, doesn’t mean they are doing you a favor. Sometimes it is an invitation to expansion, and sometimes it is nothing but trouble. We have to trust our intuition, and we have to practice the art of selective attachment, especially when the synchronicity bell chimes the loudest.”
So, that’s somewhat clear. Yet I am still left with questions: (1) Who orchestrates the synchronicities that lead to positive outcomes when they prompt us to action? Us? God? Our inner daimon? Our guiding angels? A complicated system that is designed to ELEVATE our consciousness? (2) Who orchestrates the synchronicities that lead to negative outcomes when they prompt us to action? Us? God? Our inner daimon? Guiding angels? A complicated system that is designed to UNDERMINE our consciousness? (3) Is it possible that there is no distinction to be made between elevating and undermining synchronicities? In other words, is the sychronicity system organized in a way that leads to essential spiritual growth, whatever the outcome? Or does it depend entirely on how we approach the situation after we step towards it?

Wow! This is awesome and thought provoking! I never considered synchronicities could be harmful! Thank you for sharing this and your wisdom! :two_hearts:🩵:heart:

Interesting :thinking: Synchronicity as I understand it would be to his question, is it for or against us? I would say yes and yes.

As I understand it, the system (I refer to the spiritual, human, universe in this system), is designed to sustain itself. So the synchronicity is there regardless of whether it helps us or not. Within that synchronicity the gods can guide us towards it, if they feel it would benefit us, or warn us away from it, if it would harm us. If we don’t have any deity, then our intuition, when honed, would do the same.

I think I make sense. :laughing::person_shrugging:

This is an interesting question to ponder because synchronicity as a term has its origins in psychology first. It was a term that was coined by Carl Jung in the 1930s to describe the way we feel when two events happen that feel meaningfully related yet don’t seem to have a connection.

With the basic definition of synchronicity coming directly from psychology, I can see that it can be a good or bad thing. It is even described in psychology that too much synchronicity can actually be a sign of psychosis leading more toward schizophrenic delusion. While I would never want to say anyone’s practice is leading more toward delusion than spirituality, it’s important to keep in mind as we navigate our spiritual lives.

While I don’t think spirituality and synchronicity are inherently dangerous, the trouble is when we don’t trust our intuition or our Gods to guide us in the direction we need to go. I think it is possible that synchronicity can be a bad thing because synchronicity is just our minds and our spiritual selves finding a connection between events that may or may not be related.

Synchronicity can definitely be a good thing, and I think that is how we tend to look at synchronicity when we are talking about spiritual, religious, or witchcraft-related events. I think this is because we tend to trust our gods and our intuition. We aren’t going to feel a synchronicity as a negative thing if it doesn’t feel good to us, if it doesn’t feel like it’s important or like it matters.

With that being said though, there are many times where two or more things will happen and we do feel like they are happening for a reason, and the reason is not good. These would be the times that we are being led on a different path or being warned about something. The difference though is that we tend to trust our intuition about these synchronicities instead of blindly running toward them because the events are related.

This is the ultimate question. Who is behind the scenes pulling the strings and getting us to go where they want us to go? I think all synchronicities come from a higher power, whoever that is to us as people. I don’t think there are differences between the so-called negative and the so-called positive synchronicities. I think all synchronicity serves a purpose and it is up to us as spiritual beings to determine what that purpose is.

I also believe that sometimes a synchronicity is going to be a product of the mind rather than the Spirit. The human brain is pretty good with pattern recognition and finding meaning when there isn’t necessarily meaning there. However, this is where we really need to draw on our intuition as witches and spiritual people so that we can learn to tell the difference between a positive message and a word of caution.
