There’s something ancient, primal and electric about the fires of Beltane.
As the wheel of the year turns toward the height of spring, these flames are not just for warmth or light—they are alive with intention.
Traditionally lit on the eve of May 1st, Beltane fires honor fertility, passion, protection, and the full awakening of the earth.
Where I live in New Hampshire, the earth is finally waking up…the flowers are peeking out from the soil, the birds are singing, and the animals are stirring. It makes me feel alive as well.
I wish I could explain in words what it feels like - it’s like something is awakening inside me too.
Renewed energy…this winter here was brutal and I am ready for some sunshine and warmth! It was 82 yesterday and will be about that again today! So – YAY ME! lol.
Ok..sorry I got distracted haha….back to the info!
“Back in the day”, communities would gather to kindle great bonfires, often extinguishing their household flames beforehand so they could be relit from the sacred fire—symbolizing renewal and unity.
People and livestock would pass between twin fires or leap the flames themselves, seeking blessings of health, vitality, and protection for the season ahead.
The fire was believed to burn away stagnation and invite in abundance.![]()

Spiritually, Beltane’s fire is a mirror of our own inner spark.
It asks:
what are you ready to ignite?
What desires have been quietly waiting beneath the surface, ready to rise?
This is a time to feed your passions, to honor your creative life force, and to step boldly into what sets your soul on fire! (not literally lol)
Now in today’s world…if we want giant bonfires typically you need a fire permit (at least where I live you do) and some people, can’t light fires due to where they live, but don’t worry!
A simple candle can carry this magick into your life!
Light the candle with clear intentions.
Speak your desires into the flame. Speak them as if they are already happening. Use present tense.
Let it transform doubt into courage, and hesitation into action.
The fires of Beltane remind us that we are not meant to stay dormant. We are meant to burn brightly, to create, to love, and to fully live. ![]()
Until next time…live, love and magick!
