Watermelon Magick

Summer is in full swing, and in Vienna this weekend we’ll reach 35 degrees Celsius for the first time this year. (95°F)

For me, that’s the perfect time to enjoy a well-chilled watermelon.
And as I’m happily munching away, it occured to me that I’ve never really thought about the magical properties of watermelons. Because, let’s be honest, everything is magic, and everything has magical qualities.

Here’s some information I’ve quickly gathered (with the help of AI). Maybe you’ll find it interesting, or perhaps you’ll come up with even more amazing things to say about it!

Watermelon holds a deeply symbolic and energetic reputation, primarily revered in folk magic and spiritual practices for its powerful ties to emotional healing, fertility, and abundance.

These magical and symbolic traits break down into a few core energetic signatures:
:watermelon: Key Magical & Spiritual PropertiesEmotional Release & Healing: Because of its high water content and heart-chakra aligned colors (green rind, pink/red flesh), watermelon is used in spells for washing away stagnant, heavy emotions and inviting love and joy back into your energy field.
:watermelon: Abundance & Prosperity: Its multitude of seeds has long symbolized growth, fertility, and prosperity. Dried seeds are often added to wealth-drawing spell jars or carried in sachets.
:watermelon: Symbol of Sweetness: A classic metaphor in folklore compares the fruit to human nature—suggesting we all have a protective “crust” on the outside, but our true, sweet heart is waiting to be accessed.
:watermelon: Lunar Connection: Ruled by the Water element and the Moon, the fruit is ideal for cleansing rituals, psychic development, and dream magic.

Associated Elements & Correspondences

Zodiac: Cancer, Taurus
Chakra: Heart Chakra

Practical Magical Uses

  • Clearing Blockages: Consume the juice mindfully while visualizing it flowing through your energy channels, washing away sorrow and stress.
  • Seed Magick: Collect and dry the seeds, then draw symbols or sigils for abundance on the hard shells.
  • Offerings & Harmony: Use the sweet, cooling energy of the fruit as an offering of peace and love to deities, or share it with others to foster emotional harmony.

I´ve also learned, that a WATERMELON TOURMALINE exists and look at how beautiful this is! They occur naturally, but are rather rare and expensive.

Fabulous Friday Katharina,

Beautiful Crystal; love it!

I’m not so sure about that humidity with the temperature. I lived in a humid place inland and it was miserable. Humid on the water, no problem, the ocean breezes keep it okay. I understand what they mean by “but it’s a dry heat”; it does make a difference.

Oh, you are so right, love. These days we have a humidity of 60-70% and it makes breathing a bit difficult at times.

@katharina thank you for sharing the information on this crystal it was enlightening to read. On a hot summers day cold watermelon is so refreshing and I tend to buy mini ones in the UK as they tend to be sweeter and is perfect to fit in my fridge. In Greece they give you free watermelon at the local bakery :waxing_crescent_moon::green_heart::sun:
