What bain marie mean

bain-marie pronounced “bane mah-REE” is a fancy term for hot water bath or double boiling.

bain is the french word for bath… I’m not really sure how the Marie plays in linguistically.

When I was studying nursing we liked to make jokes with my classmates: When a patient actually didn’t want to take a bath, we said [simple… to make a Bain Marie] When she asked, we said Baine Marie means Mary takes her bath, it literally means: But practically it’s one utensil inside another, so that sensitive substances don’t heat up and burn.We made the water very lukewarm and sensitivity was our favorite capricious patient. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I found out with a little research that the Marie refers to Mary the Jewess, the inventor of the double boiler, and the first known Western alchemist :sparkles:
