What is a PADFOOT?

This was a great watch. I love dogs, and have a black dog, but she’s a nice padfoot or hell hound . The story of Birtha was interesting too.

It’s funny but the most common apparition that I see, even now, is a large black dog. Seen it for years, in the corner of my eye, a large black dog but no glowing eyes.

I’m curious why you put this in the lounge, not many can watch it here. :person_shrugging:

Strange question. The video mentioned that speaking to the creature would put you in its power, but didn’t give any examples. Has anyone heard of any?

I’m the type to talk gently and quietly to any creature I meet. If the animal is there to let me know something, I figure I’m better off knowing in a gentle manner, making friends, and getting difficulty over with so I can get on with my path, whether in life or otherwise.

I haven’t heard of any, no  I tried to look up some folklore on the Padfoot, which Wikipedia just links it as a black dog in folklore, so it may be something that is specific to one area that isn’t well-documented.

I checked my English magic and folklore books and there’s nothing in them, it’s supposed to be English folklore, so will keep hunting, someone must know something  I’m just getting Harry Potter references :person_shrugging:

Ok just found this from Yorkshire
Padfoot - Monstropedia.

In a nutshell the beast originates from the old custom of burying alive an animal in a churchyard so it’s spirit would haunt the premises, if you looked it in the eye, you died. :flushed:

Thank you for checking, @MeganB & @tracyS

I used to work third shift at a gas station. People always said not to look any dog or drunk in the eye because they get violent, but I had a dog walk into the station and start barking angrily at me. I was behind the counter, where it couldn’t reach me at first, but it walked around to the side where we pass to get to the registers, still barking angrily. I stood quietly and let the dog bark, all the while, looking it in the eye as though listening to a friend with a problem. Suddenly, the dog shook its head and walked out without another word. No human was in sight, so this was definitely a stray. All I could think was I hoped the dog was able to bark out its issues so it could have a better night.
