Hey, there my fellow magic-makers, crystal lovers and spell-casters!
I´m currently deep diving into my beloved Grimoire and today it occured to me, that there are certain things that make me feel extra witchy. You know what I mean…? That feeling that flows through you and tells you that you are 100% that badass witch.
So, I started writing a list of things, that make me feel extra witchy and thought I might share it with you and see what you would come up with!
wearing long, flowy skirts and dresses (with pockets)
drawing sigils everywhere
wearing red lipstick (even if I´m not wearing any other make up)
enchanting my jewellery
wearing Anna Riva magical oils
taking a bath and making it a spell
placing my meds on my altar to charge them energetically
crystal gridding
dancing to witchy music in my long flowy skirt
painting my fingernails black
putting a blanket and some cushions on the floor and doing a full-on 20 cards tarot reading
lighting candles and incense
practicing to correctly cackle like a witch (this is so wild, there is a woman living in my neighbourhood - I´ve never seen her, only heard her - and I swear she laughs exactly like Bellatrix Lestrange and I´m SO jealous.)
Okay, so what makes YOU feel extra witchy these days? Let me knooowwww!
1 My runes and chanting alongside some great Nordic musicians like this one:
2 Reading my witchy books, like the Poetic Eddas, my demon grimoires and then trying to make modern spells with these old grimoires.
3 Lighting candles, decorating candles with runes, dripped wax etc.
3 Watching my favourite witchy shows like Practical Magic, Beautiful Creatures and Supernatural.
4 Sitting under a tree.
5 Making a cup of tea and spooning a rune shape into it
6 Re-blessing my wards and spell jars even if that’s just dusting them and saying thankyou, the process of holding them, knocking the bells outside is just witchy
That’s it for now but I may think of more later.
1 Dancing about with abandon. I embody the whole “dance like no one’s watching” thing, because I do, and no one is, and if they are - feel the witch, honey!
2 Lighting candles, the best is filling up a room.
3 Reading something about Paganism or witchcraft, and taking mad, detailed notes, pondering it all. I go through those little page flags a lot, too.
4 Sitting outside in the summer with fireflies all around me. We are silent together in the twilight. They are my summer faeries, come to visit.
5 Staring into a fire.
6 During art-making, when I’m totally in the zone and things happen and nothing can stop me.
Wearing all black.
Wearing my bead bracelets.
When I pull out my wand to use. There’s something magical about that.
When I can get out into nature. Just seeing the trees change is magical to me.
Its so fun to read everyone’s responses Ive only cast a couple of spells so far. Im mostly working on being intentional instead of just going through the daily motions right now. but for me I like to have a cuppa tea after everyone goes to bed in the dark with just a candle or the salt lamp, lighting candles, painting my nails though it doesn’t last long and I dont do it often and of course reading witchy/pagan things also “playing cards” (Lenormand) as my husband puts it.
@TS5 thanks for sharing the music video. Ive recently discovered I love listening to Norse music. Most of what I find isn’t in English but some how it still really speaks to me.
I’m also very new and still learning so much everyday! I do the spells8 morning ritual every morning. I usually just choose the meditation, but I light the candle and incense, cast a circle even some times. My thing lately is discovering witchy music. We all come from the Goddess chant is amazing! It settles into me and makes me feel very spiritual.
I also feel very connected to tarot and get like a wonderful spine tingle that runs up me when I pull certain cards. That makes me feel witchy!
I also love standing with my feet and ankles in running water. That’s actually what made me think about witchcraft and eventually brought me here. Last summer I had an incredible moment in a river. I just knew in that moment that I was connected to everything. I was a part of nature, I was nature! It was incredibly powerful!
I love that, too. It gives witchcraft-studies-vibes. Even better while wearing a pointy hat.
This is so relaxing, it must be one of the oldest forms of meditation after cloud watching.
Thank you…!!! I´m glad you´re having fun with it!
I hear you!! I love to charge them on my crystal altar and enchant them before putting them on.
This is such a delicious time of the day, when all is quiet and you can feel an energy shift, because people are going to sleep or already sleeping. In Feng Shui, the night is associated with “Yin” – a phase of rest, darkness and passive energy, in contrast to the active “Yang” energy during the day. So, more sensitive people pick up on this energy shift. During the day, we are surrounded by a multitude of stimuli (light, colors, sounds). When these are absent, our brain focuses more on the space itself and on our own internal states. Especially when you´re a neurodivergent person (adhd/autism) it´s like you have a disrupted circadian rhythm. Our bodies often release melatonin (the sleep hormone) significantly later than in neurotypical people.
Woohooo! Great learning, love! How do you like casting circles? Have you tried different methods, or are you currently sticking with one?
It is!!! There is this one version on youtube, which starts with a howling wolf…gives me full body chills everytime!!
I hear you! Tarot is so much fun, pulling daily cards or doing big, juicy spreads…and there are so so many cool tarot hacks. Have you joined the Tarot Journey yet? We´re focusing on ancestor work this month. Feel free to jump right in!
Thanks for reminding me…I need to do that more often!!
I have tried two different ways, both found here. One where I call the quarters and it feels so powerful. I also have a quicker, more visualization than ritual and words. I use one or the other depending on time. I love the peaceful quiet that settles over me inside the circle. My brother had never cast a circle and he said the same thing. It feels safe and protected inside.
I haven’t joined the journey just yet. I’m still working my way through the tarot lesson here. I definitely will though and I have searched a few new tarot spreads here in the forums.
I loved that you tube video!! You’ll like this one then, I bet.
I need to look for or create a running water cleansing ritual. Maybe I can adapt or find one for the ocean since I’m headed to South Padre Island on Thursday! I’m going with my mom and daughter. My daughter is also a witch, so I’m sure we will be crafting. @katharina Thanks so much for all of your support. I read your responses all the time and you are there to help everyone. I see you!
mmm, extra witchy… decorating my altar for the season (I’ll admit, this year it’s not been a priority)… planning out spells and rituals. I’m getting better and better each time… music, I love witchy music, wearing one of my witch hats. I have a beautiful one that is quite casual. I’m about ready to wear it with my casual attire… visiting witchy stores. I’ve finally found some nearby that I love and I’ve gotten over my worry of going into them. The biggest thing that makes me feel extra witchy is using my cauldron. It’s like shiver inducing witchiness!
I am a triple Pisces, and have always felt connected to water. I think you may be right. It’s just warm enough in Michigan for the water to be in its liquid form!
How lovely! I haven’t figured out my main element yet, but I think it’s Fire. I’ve always liked playing with matches, lol! And once, as a dare, I used some of that gel that stuntmen use and lit my hand on fire! Only for a minute, and then we put me out. What can I say, I was twelve and had a sort of crush on an older kid whose Dad was a firefighter. I was trying to impress him. LOL!
Sure, this works just as well! I like to visualize a tiny dragon circling around me and leaving a a trail of glitter that then marks my sacred space. There reallly are no rules here!
Tarot can be somewhat overwhelming at the beginning, so take your time and whenever you have some questions make sure to drop them in the Tarot thread as well. It is here for learning!
I did! Little Red Ridinghood is one of my favourite stories. Did you know that it´s a really old story, too? The written version is about 300 years old but it is thought that it is much older than that, but was passed on orally. And there is so much symbolism in it! Researchers believe that Little Red Ridinghood, her mother and her grandmother was the mother goddess in her three forms: maiden, mother, crone and that the story could go back to pre-christian celtic or germanic culture.
This sounds very lovely!
Well, of course, love!
Oh, you´re absolutely right! There´s no need to do everything all the time. I also believe, that our immediate living space is radiating with our energy anyway, so everything inside these energy fields that we create might pick up on that vibe.
That´s a good one! I haven´t done that in a while…
Wow! Looks like you´ve found your primary tool then!
Here are some cool threads on cauldrons by our wise and wonderful @SilverBear Maybe you can expand your knowledge about the use of your cauldron…I know I did!
Things that make me feel witchy is looking at my alter and all my cute little bottles, my cards that I like looking at everyday. I can be making coffee and I look over at that and it just brings a big smile on my face and I feel good inside and out knowing that I have that little magic in me that carries me through and feels in the blanks of my life. I love being a witch. Blessed Be
When I lived in Missouri, Virginia, and California I felt more connected to water. I know, Michigan is surrounded by water!! But it’s cold here souch of the year, it’s hard to enjoy water when there are icebergs in it!!
Oh haven’t we all been there!? Do you love bonfires? What about the spells where you light things on fire? I have just always known I lived water. My mom called me a “water baby”, so I guess even that young. It wasn’t until recently that I started to realize that not everyone feels a connection like that. You will find it though and enjoy the journey!!
Oh I love this!! I am definitely going to try this one!!
This is really interesting!! Now I have to go dive down a research hole!! Hahaha! Thanks, I love it!!
I went to Summer Camp four times, which I hated, just for the bonfires. LOL! And yes, I love setting things on fire. That’s why I figure I’m a fire witch. I have a couple of books on it, I just need to get off my bum and research some more. I have so much to read and not enough hours to read it all!
I agree, the sight of my altar always makes me happy, too! Also, cleansing and re-decorating it is sometimes the starting point to cleaning my whole apartment.
Saaammmmeeee, girl!!! To the point that I´m asking myself: how are people living without magic?? All the interesting things we get to learn, the emotional depth we get to experience, the wisdom we gain through oracles, Runes and the Tarot about OURSELVES and all the fun magical crafting (which is a big part of my practice)…I couldn´t do without it!!
Yeah…take a flashlight down that rabbit hole! It´s not well lit, at times confusing and there´s not a lot of information out there. And don´t ask AI, they have no reliable information about these things.
A good place to start would be Marija Gimbutas.
There is so much symbolism in Little Red Ridinghood, and just as many interpretations. One that I like is that it originally was the story of an initiation ritual, with the red cap being a symbol for Amanita Muscaria and the encounter with the wolf being interpreted on an internal level of the psyche, meaning all the people showing up in the story being aspects and shadow aspects of your own psyche. I found this always fascinating, because in art-therapy this is exactly how we are using story-telling as a therapeutic resource to work with clients and it seems, shamans and healers have done that since the beginning of mankind.
