Sure, this works just as well! I like to visualize a tiny dragon circling around me and leaving a a trail of glitter that then marks my sacred space. There reallly are no rules here!

I did! Little Red Ridinghood is one of my favourite stories. Did you know that it´s a really old story, too? The written version is about 300 years old but it is thought that it is much older than that, but was passed on orally. And there is so much symbolism in it! Researchers believe that Little Red Ridinghood, her mother and her grandmother was the mother goddess in her three forms: maiden, mother, crone and that the story could go back to pre-christian celtic or germanic culture.

Oh, you´re absolutely right! There´s no need to do everything all the time. I also believe, that our immediate living space is radiating with our energy anyway, so everything inside these energy fields that we create might pick up on that vibe.
