What to do with a sigil after a spell?

I did a banishment spell because the negative energy from having to interact with my ex (co-parenting arrangement) was really affecting my own energy negatively. For this spell I created a sigil on parchment from the affirmation “I have peace and stability”. I left in on my altar since then with citrine and amethyst and I placed it in the light of the full moon with my tarot cards, crystals and moon water. I used visualization to activate it but read on the Spells8 website that common ways of activating it are by burning it or burying it. I guess my question is, as a complete novice, should I burn it now? I am not able to bury it because the ground is frozen here in Illinois. And I already feel it was activated and serving it’s purpose. I would appreciate any guidance on this.

I’ve always burned mine by lighting it from the main candle in whatever spell I was working after activating it and as I was wrapping up the spell. By activating I’m referring to visualizing it being stored in my subconscious through meditation.

On another note, I also anoint them with whatever ritual oil I’m using to dress the candle. Clockwise to receive and counterclockwise to release.

I have always done the same as @CrystalWitch62 I sometimes have a spell that just says to throw it in the trash. On that instance I take them outside to the garbage can and put them in that.

Hi @SerenFox,

You’ve already had some great advice, just wanted to add another point of view. The beauty of the Craft (I think) is about doing what feels right for you. So I would ask, what do you want to do with it?

Absolutely everything you will read or hear is guidance - some is passed down directly from generation to generation in it’s traditional form, some will have been adapted and updated along the way. But what you choose to do with that information is up to you… for example, if you asked 100 Italians how to make tomato sauce, you would probably get 100 answers, and none would be wrong. The difference is choice, a personal choice.

I think that’s your answer - if you feel it is activated and serving it’s purpose, then that is what matters. Be confident in your powers and in your spells, I encourage you to make them your own. Burying it may be common to people whose ground isn’t frozen, but if it is then it isn’t an option… so make your own option!

I have the same situation, and I did something that I used to do a long time ago; after my spell to heal, I wrote his name on a piece of paper and put it in my shoe, then I walked up and down his butt for a few days. It was very satisfying. Also useful for work colleagues… there’s something warm and fuzzy about talking to someone obnoxious and knowing you’re standing on them. Lucky for them I did it for my satisfaction, not to cause them harm!

Bury or burn… or what you feel comfortable with (pretty much what everyone says). I don’t bury things that I won’t be digging back up. Unless I lose track of where I buried it (Tarot deck got lost once )

I have a spell jar with sigils and other things that will be burned in a few days (the spell will be finished then). The jar, which also is burnable, and the ashes will be put in the recycle bin.

 :heartbeat: I love this. I don’t have anyone I want to do this to right now but in my life I’ve had lots of candidates. I don’t do baneful stuff but this seems like it would just be for me.

Thank you @CrystalWitch62 for sharing how you do it. I thought about burning it but I was afraid it would set off my smoke alarm lol. I think to burn it I would have to go outside on a night when it’s not too windy.

I really like this and I will definitely keep this advice in mind generally moving forward.

I absolutely love that :joy:

I didn’t know you can get burnable spell jars. Interesting. Spell jars are definitely something I want to get around to trying at some point but I haven’t yet. Ty for your response!

I can totally see myself doing something like that :joy:

A bit of crafting needed. I might make one for the craft challenge. If a jar that is opaque is good for you, these work.

You can also get small clear plastic jars used for air brush mixes and they can be burnt but the trade off is it must be done outside. On Amazon, search for air brush jars. Choose the ones with screw on caps.

Yvw, and yes, safety always!

I looked at the craft challenge and realized my post was not really in line with what everyone was doing. SOooo… here is what I was talking about when I implied you could make a burnable jar. The body can be a toilet paper core. This one is a 32mm inside diameter tube (small). Card paper is used to make caps. In this one I made the tabs fairly short so it was fiddly to get it right. Longer tabs would be lots easier. The one in the picture could be burned in a cauldron or easily burned outside.

For what it’s worth, this could 100% count as a challenge entry if you so choose  it’s still crafty and creative!

You’ve gotten some great answers already, so I’ll just add another option to consider. Depending on the purpose of the sigil, you could also activate it and carry it with you. I’ve done this for a few different sigils such as abundance (carried in my wallet) or memory for a test (carried in my pocket).

Long ago and far away, I could have used that. What I did back then was hone my meditation skills - which paid off for all the years to come. I found I could concentrate better and remember the fire hose of ideas they like to throw at us. Sigils would have complimented that so well!

As far as I’m aware the sigil worked fairly well  it was for my child who has two disorders that affect her memory. She was really worried about her tests that week so I created the sigil and she carried it with her  for myself, I do the same thing with sigils but I also keep them near me while I’m studying.
