Why Letting Go Isn’t Your Goal for the Full Moon

Why Letting Go Isn’t Your Goal for the Full Moon

Every month you see it posted across social media “release what no longer serves you underneath tonight’s Full Moon.”

It’s become one of the biggest quotes in new-age spiritual circles…but is it actually wise timing with the moon’s natural energy?

Nope!!!

I will die on this mountain! LOL

When we look to nature instead of google trends, we start to realize that the Full Moon isn’t a time of releasing—instead it’s a time of fullness, illumination, celebration, and power.

Let’s talk about why…

The Moon Reflects Nature

The moon has a never-ending cycle of waxing until she peaks, then waning back to new and restarting the process.

Just like you wouldn’t pick fruit from a tree before it’s ready, it just doesn’t make sense to work on releasing things when lunar energy is not right.

The Full Moon symbolizes:

  • Completion
  • Manifestation
  • Illumination
  • Heightened intuition
  • Gratitude
  • Amped-up energy

Everything around you feels amplified. It’s a time to celebrate your achievements instead of immediately tossing away everything you’ve been working on.

The Full Moon Brings Things Into Focus

During the Full Moon, things you may have been trying to ignore come sharply into focus.

Maybe it’s a hidden emotion.

An unhealthy pattern.

An undeniable truth.

Or even an opportunity that’s been staring you in the face.

But illumination doesn’t equal release

Think of the Full Moon as a highlighter…Her job is to help you SEE what already is. Once something has been illuminated, you can take the next few weeks to decide what energies deserve your attention and what no longer serves you.

You must first be aware.

Letting go comes later.

Nature Shows Us When it’s Time to Release

A few days after the Full Moon, the moon begins to wane.

Her light is now decreasing in visibility night after night.

This is nature showing us how sacred release works.

During Waning Moon Phases…

Cut the cords that no longer serve you. Banish things that no longer bring you peace. Let go of bad habits. Feel the emotions that have been hiding. Declutter your space. Forgive yourself and others. Release old beliefs that are holding you back. Clear your space of stagnant energy.

Instead of clinging on to things at the Full Moon, we ride the natural energy of LESS and LESS until things naturally fall away.

Look to the moon. She’s already teaching us.

What to do instead of trying to FORCE yourself to release things during the Full Moon?

Ask yourself these questions instead:

  • What has flowered since the New Moon?
  • Where have I seen results?
  • What feelings have come up for me?
  • What truths have I uncovered?
  • What is worthy of praise/gratitude?
  • What aspect of myself can I celebrate?

During the Full Moon you can:

  • Charge your crystals + tools
  • Meet up with your circle
  • Do some divination work
  • Spend time in nature under Moonlight
  • Journal about what you’ve uncovered
  • Say thank you to your spirit guides, ancestors, + the Earth
  • PARTY. You earned it!

FULL MOON energy is expansive which means it wants to FILL YOU UP.

Allow yourself to accept this generous energy.

Working WITH the Moon’s Energy

One of the best lessons I’ve learned about witchcraft is simply OBSERVATION.

The moon has been pulling the tides for centuries. Dictating planting and harvesting seasons. New beginnings and endings.

When we work WITH the moon’s cycle instead of against it, we tune into the wisdom that already exists all around us. We realize magick isn’t about forcing change, it’s about allowing ourselves to ride the natural flow.

Grow with the Waxing Moon.

Illuminate with the Full Moon.

Release with the Waning Moon.

Rest and restore with the New Moon.

Every phase has something to teach us if we allow it.

Although every Moon Phase has a purpose I think the important thing is to do what’s feels right at the time as if your try to follow what social media states and you miss one then you are stopping yourself from moving forward with anything you want to do in that Moon Cycle. I am drawn to the Moon and her energies and inner feelings to guide me.

Thank you for sharing such an important article as the majority of us in this Coven use the Moon Phases in our practice.

Brightness Blessings and have a wonderful Sabbat :waxing_gibbous_moon::green_heart::dotted_six_pointed_star:
