I won’t lie, both this project and life in general got overwhelming these past two weeks. It’s become more of a massive undertaking than I expected and don’t want to bore anyone else with the minutia of meanings and details. So I’ll keep it brief as I work on this on my own.

Last year I became interested in making my own Bone Casting / Throwing set and learning to read them. I blame @tracyS and @MeganB for putting the idea in my head in a wonderful divination exploration post. :pink_heart:

Adding in some information on osteomancy

I currently have 25 pieces in the set and have the ability to break them down into easy/beginner, intermediate, and advanced sets based on my comfort level reading as well as the complexity of the question and answer. Before this challenge, I worked with each piece to find and assign its meaning as well as thought about conditional meanings for certain pieces - for example:

  • The Nail

    • Meanings: Pain, hardship, binding, endurance, or fixing something in place. The head of the nail relates to external influences, while the tip signifies deeper wounds or necessary actions.
    • Interaction: Represents difficulty or resilience depending on placement and proximity.
  • Heart-Shaped Hag Stone

    • Meanings: Emotional insight, spiritual vision, protection, love, connection to the unseen. Placement-dependent, it can indicate emotional matters or clarity needed in relationships.
    • Interaction: Meaning shifts based on placement with other pieces.

PLEASE NOTE - this set contains animal bones/teeth. All animal items were sourced ethically and naturally.

For this challenge I used about 15 pieces, as well as created a template for a mat to try out.

Then I set to noting positions and interactions of the pieces. This is where it will bore everyone so I won’t go into details.

To be able to get a full reading, I had to unpile items to see detailed interactions.

Already this post is getting long and boring, so I’ll just add my take away from this reading.

  • My intuition is strong, but there may be lingering emotional ties or subconscious influences that need to be fully acknowledged.
  • Transformation is happening—but the process is not linear. Some parts of the path may feel unclear (labyrinth tile), but there is an underlying wisdom and stability (acorn, white stone, antler tip) guiding me.
  • Material and creative energies are building momentum—something wants to take shape in the tangible world.

Because this wasn’t enough of a challenge already  , I created a throw specific tarot spread to shine more light on this reading.

Layout: (Cards placed in positions matching the throw’s sections)

        (5)
   (4) (6)
    (3) (7) (8)
  (2) (9)
       (1)

Card Meanings Based on Bone Throw:

  • The Nail (Past & Love) – What pain, endurance, or lesson from the past still affects relationships or emotions?
  • The Chicken Bone & White Stone (Past Influences) – What foundation or previous decisions are relevant now?
  • The Emu Claw Sheath (Health & Love) – How do health and relationships influence each other?
  • The Acorn (Material Matters & Wisdom) – What potential or wisdom is ready to be used?
  • The Shark Osteoderm (Thoughts, Intuition & Future) – How do communication and intuition shape upcoming possibilities?
  • The Deer Tooth & Antler Tip (Intuition & Thought) – What inner wisdom or experience is guiding me?
  • The Labyrinth Tile (Communication) – What journey or choice must be navigated?
  • The Hagstone (Central Message) – What is at the heart of this reading?
  • The Goat Tooth (Hidden & Dreams) – What subconscious forces or overlooked factors are at play?

(Deck - Oak, Ash & Thorn)

I told y’all this was too long! so I’ll spare everyone the interpretation.

I would have to say that despite or maybe because of the amount of effort and detail that went into this reading, it was tiring, complicated, and incredibly resonant. I would combine divination readings in the future and found that tarot was the perfect companion to bone casting.
