Challenge Entry 7 -Ocean Magick - Sea Witch

I chose this one as I have already represented my Scottish Heritage in Challenge Entry 4 -Crystal Cairn Balance & Harmony Spell and so I thought I would go to the other end of the Country to Devon where my maternal Nana comes from as this also has a strong connection to me and Forklore Magick.

For centuries there have been Sea Witches in Devon, Cornwall, Isle of Man, Shetlands in Scotland as we are a sea fairing nation. Sea Witches focus on Moon, tides and weather magick. Sea Witches could raise winds and storms by Knot Magick. The Witches gathered air from the mountaintops or by the sea to entrap it in the knots. A ship becalmed at sea could be a very bad thing, unable to transport goods or fish etc. So Sailors, Fishermen would buy magical knots, by untying a 1 knot they would summoned a gentle breeze, 2 knots for a half gale and 3 to summon a storm.

The spell for this is as follows:

• The cord should be white/cream I used cotton as it is a natural material.

• Use salt water to cleanse your altar and the cord

  Affirmation - With this water I wash you, with this salt I cleanse you, all negative energy now be gone, let there be good energy from now on, So Mote It Be

• Knot 1 - Affirmation - I call forth the power of the wind to be placed into this Knot for safekeeping and wait for the prefect breeze, when the energy of the breeze feels right, finish the knot securely it firmly but not to tight that it can’t be untied when needed.

• Knot 2 -Repeat Affirmation keep breathing and wait for a stronger breeze than the first.

• Knot 3 - Repeat Affirmation a third time, waiting for the breeze to be stronger than the second.

• To finish thank your ancestors for showing you ancient magick and the wind gifts.

• Storing your knots - coil the wind knot anti clockwise starting from the tail after Knot 3 so you finish at Knot 1. Place in a bag or tin

• Using your knots - when you need to regulate the intensity of the wind in your life. To release the wind uncoil the cord. Untie 1 Knot if you need the energy moving forward. Untie 2 when you need a stronger push and release the last one when you are ready for a complete upheaval.

• Bless and cleanse the cord ready for its next use.

I have enjoyed all my Challenge Entries and each one is a piece of who I am. Doing them has given me the push I needed to finally get my Tea Leaves Reading Set and learn more about the Sea Witches (and my realisation that I have Koi and beach pebbles).

Sea Witches share a profound focus on the elements, Moon, Sun, the Elements, nature, Forklore Magick and also having deep connections to the unseen world just like a Hedge Witch.

@Jeannie1 you have posted it so it should count towards your Challenge Entry. You have done well I could not have done that one.

@julie8 that is quite a collection of items both past and present. Being surrounded by nature is rewarding indeed as you have been able to add to your Den lots of important things to you.

@kat1 congraulations on your book I am sure that it will help a lot of people. Being in nature I gives a time to think and look at your surroundings taking in the smallest detail and beauty of it. There are no deadlines to meet, no bills to pay, no errors/housework/no one else to but you to. You are at one with nature and it rewards you with peace, stillness and joy.

CHALLENGE ENTRY 5 - CHAKRAS

A quote by Leandra Witchwook:

“Magick is the act of focused will. Some compare it to prayer, yet I see it as being something far more interactive than merely asking a higher power to take over and cure all your ills. Magick is what we use to manifest what we desire through action, both metaphysical and physical. If you cannot make a direct and balanced connection between all the aspects – mind, body, emotion, and spirit – your magick will almost always fall short or fail altogether. This is not to say that chakras are the key, but they are a great focal point to start establishing focus and balance within your practice.”

I personally don’t have a great knowledge of Chakras but am learning and expanding my knowledge every day. I love the colours and have these throughout my home. My blinds in my “Den” (home office) are all in the chakra colours and I have matching floor rug, light shade and desk runner. It is amazing how easy it is to find complimentary accessories.

My yoga and meditation room is where I keep my crystal sound bowls. I have these placed on a timber slab plank in front of the window where I can sit and meditate and play my sound bowls while I can look out the window. My crystal sound bowls are all in the chakra colours and I was very lucky to purchase these second hand at a ridiculously cheap price from a sound healer who no longer wanted them. Still not sure how to use them and am open to lots of advice.

In my bedroom I have 7 small canvas photos of myself and my husband. I have mounted these on one wall in a line vertically and placed a crystal chakra cube on top of each picture to represent the 7 chakras.

I have a “Story Chair” in the corner of my living room which is decorated with a colourful throw rug and a hessian rug with chakra colour tassels. On the wall I have a picture drawn by my granddaughter and a clock made by her at pre-school. It is very serene. I have a block table beside the chair with a salt lamp and a Citrine crystal slab. It is very peaceful to sit and read. The original purpose of it was to read stories to my two granddaughters and is big enough to hold the three of us. Unfortunately, they live too far away, and my daughter-in-law doesn’t like travelling the 6 hour trip very often. So it is my Zen zone. I love the bright colours in my home; they bring me peace and serenity and sunshine to my life.

The 7 Chakras play a vital role in our emotional, spiritual, physical and mental well-being. Practices like yoga, meditation, reiki and others help us recover our energy and vitality. Through these daily practices we can pay attention to our energy centre and our physical, emotional and spiritual needs. The Chakras can be incorporated into our practices and craft in many ways – crystals, healing spells, visualisation and meditation. By working with the Chakras, we can dislodge the unconscious blocks and get our energy moving in a healthy flow through our bodies. The chakra system is a map of our whole self that we can use to identify imbalances. It is thought the** **energy of each chakra flows out into our aura and can influence our mood, our ability to heal, our ability to express love and even our ability to connect with divinity. There is an awesome place just outside of Byron Bay in New South Wales, Australia called the “Crystal Castle”. If ever you are in Australia, it is worth a visit. The display of crystals is breathtaking. Huge amethyst caves you can sit inside. When I was there, I had an Aura Reading done. Unfortunately, I didn’t tape the results, but I still have the picture.

Challenge Entry - Hand Crafting

Manifesting my witch-life
As an art-witch, creating is very closely tied to manifestation and magickal workings. My paintings, sculptures and crafts are like permanently installed spellwork for me.
A couple of years ago I dreamt up my perfect little witch-hut where I will be living my perfect little witch-life. And so I made it into a tiny little dollhouse.
(Dollhouses are their own kind of magic, if you ask me)

Say Hi! to the little red-haired witch in her little cosy house.

Right now she is relaxing with a cup of herbal tea and some magazines. She has some interesting reads there, like “Brooms for the modern Witch”, or “WITCH! Fashion”.
(I´m not sure if you can tell from the photo, but the small teapot is floating in the air.)

Her shelf is filled with books, ancient script rolls, and spell ingredients like “Unicorn Snot”, “Eyeballs” and other interesting items.

Of course she has cats living with her.

And a ghostie! The orange cat loves to play with the ghostie, but ghostie doesn´t like this too much. Ghostie is a bit shy. One day the little witch knitted a sweater for Ghostie, because she wants everyone to be warm and cosy.

This is her writing desk where she studies very difficult magic and also does her Tarot readings.

I built her house into a box that is shaped to look like a book, I thought this would be the perfect vibe for this little book loving witch, a bit of an introvert for sure, who loves to spend time at home.

Whenever I´m looking at it, I get this happy vibe, this warm, cosy feeling. I am that witch. And I am so happy to be that witch.

Challenge entry - Amulets and Talismans

I can never resist a nice talisman, amulet or spell-pouch, so I´ve collected and made quite many.
Here are three that I want to show and tell!

I crocheted this little talisman pouch and I love it so so much, I´m definitely going to make more of them. It can hold a small crystal, a petition or a cotton pad with some spell oil on it. If herbs were wrapped up in a tiny paper envelope, they could also be put into it.

This piece is very important to me. My mom made it herself, when she was in her late twenties. She worked with Runes and made this binding rune for protection into this necklace.

This beautiful snake and turquoise amulet was given to me by a dear friend almost thirty years ago. She was into crystals, psychology and witchcraft just like me until she fell in love and married a christian man who convinced her to give up all the “woo-woo” (because in his mind it´s devil worship). Keeping up our friendship got more and more difficult, because she changed so much; it was like she faded away into this cult, she completely changed her appearance and even how she spoke changed…it was super weird. And of course it was only a question of time until he suggested that she would cut me off, because I was a bad influence. I mean after all I was the one dragging her to crystal shows. How dare I.
But I still think of her, I have her close to my heart.

Challenge entry - Magickal Inks and Oils

Okay, I love making spell oils! It´s one of the things that have a super witchy vibe for me.
I have different methods for making spell oils:

• Using a base of olive oil, adding dried herbs, salt and crystals that correspond with the intent.

• Using a base of jojoba oil, adding essential oils. I make a point of using only genuine essential oils, not synthetic ones. They have a different vibe or frequency…I don´t find the right words for it maybe.

• Using a base of jojoba oil, adding ANNA RIVA spell oils; these oils ARE synthetic oils, but they smell so good and I just love them. They are not super easy to get, so I will order a batch once a year and they will last me quite some time. They come for all different magical purposes.

As many other witches do, I´ve made some spell-ink from dragonblood resin, which I will use for sigils or writing petitions.
Dragonblood is not soluble in water, so you will need methylated spirits to dissolve it. Another way is to just buy regular red ink, add some sprinkles of dragonblood (or any other ingredient for that matter) and consecrate it as your magical ink. Mind over matter.

Challenge Entry - Money Magick

When it comes to money magick, I will heavily rely on my trusted money bowl. I´m trying to do a reset every New Moon, but honestly sometimes life is so busy, it makes it hard for me to keep up with everything and staying aligned with the moon phases.
So, sometimes my money bowl will collect some dust, but I refuse to feel bad about it.

I found the dish in a thrift shop, spray painted it green and gave it some golden touch ups. It looks quite nice.

My money bowl contains spirit money, some green rice (it´s on the bottom of the bowl), basil, cinnamon, ginger, coins and chocolate coins and two little spell bottles I made. Every so often I will put a spellcandle into it.

Challenge Entry - Heed the Call of Crystals

As a single mom I am very much on a budget, so every purchase is made with great care. I do live close by a large crystal shop, and once or twice a year I will treat myself to some new crystal friends.

I would say my all time favorites are clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, black tourmaline, tigers eye and lapislazuli.
Did you know the pigment for the color ultramarine blue was made from lapislazuli? And it was so precious, that it was more expensive than gold.

Nerding out

Natural ultramarine was one of the most important blue pigments on artists’ palettes until the industrial production of synthetic ultramarine blue in 1828. It is among the most sought-after and expensive pigments in the history of painting, as blue minerals are rare in nature. Moreover, no other mineral exhibits such a beautiful, deep blue as lapis lazuli. For a long time, only two mines were known: the Sar-e-Sang mine in Badakhshan (northeastern province of Afghanistan) and the one in Malaya Bystraya near Lake Baikal (Siberia). Dangerous and lengthy journeys were therefore necessary to bring the coveted blue stone to Europe. An extremely time-consuming manufacturing process further increased the pigment’s cost. (Depending on the recipe, up to 50 steps are needed to produce the pigment, which takes a considerable amount of time: It takes about half a year to produce the coveted blue pigment from half a kilo of lapis lazuli.) It is therefore not surprising that in European painting, this blue was only permitted to be used for the robes of Mary, depictions of Christ, or for the sky. Although there was another blue pigment, the mineral azurite, that could be used for murals, artists preferred the much more expensive natural ultramarine because it can turn green over time.

I love crystal grids and will do them big or small, doesn´t matter to me. Having a grid in my room just raises the vibes so much.
