Sorry to confound. I enjoy philosophical conundrums, though.

I don’t practice much fire work indoors.
But we open our trailer this week and once I’m back there, I use our fire pit a lot!
I will have to put something together for next weekend for this challenge!

Loving all the entries!!! :blue_heart:

Fire pits are magickal! I have pictures of all kinds of gatherings around the fire. It has been done since fire was ‘discovered’. Just meditating on it would be awesome.

WITCH CHALLENGE - Fire Magick

Challenge entry – Garnet

I never used too much fire in my practice, but I like the atmosphere that
candles gave on my altar. The artificial candle put in the windows at

Christmas. 'Sigh…”

When I was little, mom had a string of lights for the Christmas tree.
It looked like a candle and it lit up. The actual part that looked like a
candle was a transparent tube with colored fluid in it and as the light
warmed the fluid, little bubble rose in the candle. But it was hot (say my
little burned fingers) and a fire hazard.

Historically people used real candles before electricity. Scary much?
Early electric tree lights which could get so hot they could actually catch fire
on the driedout trees.

But I digress .

Fire has been important to man since the first man approached it after a
lightning strike and burned their hand(theoretically). It warmed them and kept
away wild predators. And so the love/hate relationship between man and fire
began.

After hundreds of thousands of eons, fire became indispensable in everyday life.
Heat, food cooking, light and protection. And sadly, war.
As far back in history we can go, fire was important. It was used in rituals,
ceremonies to honor deities, It was often used symbolically to cleanse and
purify. It was also used to drive away evil spirits. It could be used to signal from one
mountain to another. All of the Sabbats and Estabats enjoy bonfires.
Bonfires were used in the middle ages to cremate the dead and stop the
spread of decease. Cremation is still used to dispose of the dead.
It was also used to execute supposed heretics and Witches.

In modern times, excluding war, the biggest fires we see today is building fires, the
cause varies. Forrest fires caused by nature itself (or man) can claim the destruction
of untold flora and fauna. There have always been forest fires, it’s natures way of
cleansing the land for new growth. It’s normal and in the long run, productive.
Mankind is blamed for pollution of land, water and air, Global warming, the melting
ice. And people, like chicken ‘little’ are running around crying: ‘oh no, oh no!’
“The sky is falling!” Who do we blame?” There’s enough blame to go around.

I remember in the 50’s or 60’s atmospheric changes were blamed on cattle.

According to:

USA TODAY - Methane accounts for about 20 percent of greenhouse gas
emissions globally, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection agency.
And it’s more than 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide at trapping
heat in the atmosphere.

But take heart, we just tell our cattle to stop burping and farting.

Fire is the only element not affected by Global Warming.
When the other blessed elements are corrupted, Fire will still be burning
bright. What we must worry about is, will there be anything left to burn?

Bright blessings and clean air and water

Witch Challenge for Amethyst:

I’ve decided to pledge myself to Brigid tonight, but that’s another ritual. This little spell I wrote to go with lighting a tea candle each morning to honor Lady Brigid and then anointing myself with oil for a blessing a protection.

A Flame for Brigid :fire:

Lady Brigid, Child of the Elements, I light this flame in your honor.
I seek to learn from your teachings,
grow with your inspiration,
and transform in your fire.
Lady Brigid, I ask you to watch over me,
protect me through the day,
and guide me with you sacred flame!

Blessed be!

Hope y’all like it!

Hi Dan!
Your challenge is excellent! I really enjoyed reading the paragragh below:

“That shared awe? That silence followed by gasps and cheers? That’s not just entertainment. That’s ritual. That’s enchantment…”

As I’m not able to celebrate Beltane how I would like, my Boss here at work was open to let me start the office day siting the Beltane invocation and light candles everywhere! So today in office we substitute the big fire with our candles and will make a small may pole for in office!

Your boss is pretty cool. Can’t imagine asking that of mine. But then again, we all work from home so a moot point.

I’m very wary of fire, even candles really. Our cats used to jump up on things, and I had visions of one of them flying through the house with the their tail on fire! Plus we have smoke detectors on every room, and I’d hate to be setting those off all over the place.

Cats are older now, and don’t get up on my desk, so I can enjoy candles (votives and chime candles) and I also found a smoke free way to enjoy incense. I enjoyed some firey video in my Beltane ritual this morning too :sunrise:

Though this Beltane found me busy and unable to celebrate as fully as I’d like, I still honored the fire and fertility of the season in a simple, heartfelt way. I lit three red candles—symbols of passion, vitality, and sacred flame—and nestled them in a candle holder adorned with soft florals and greenery. The glow through the glass feels like a whisper from the Earth, reminding me that even small acts can carry deep magic. Beltane is a time to celebrate life, love, and renewal, and I offer this moment as my quiet tribute to the turning of the Wheel.

For this one, I had wanted to do a big bonfire, but there have been a lot of wild fires because it been so dry here. So, what I did instead was re-carve/color my candle and add a second bind rune in blue to it! I also anointed it with the oil I have now. I took a few moments to honor the fire and mediate with it. Not pictured is how high the flame grew!
I’m still learning, but hopefully this counts <3

Fire. First, I love fire. I love candles, bonfires, open fires, and the smell of matches. Pyromaniac, not really but if I could legally light a 20 foot flame that would be something - should’ve been a fireman.

So the magic. As one of the key elements it’s important, it’s also part of Loki’s energy. I like the simplicity of fire. How so?

Well you use it to light a candle, the flame helps us see any messages from the gods, and you can scry with fire.

It lights our incense to cleanse our space.

It’s used in so many spells and rituals - infact try to imagine being a witch without fire  I’d be really stuck

It’s used in every part of a witches life, from the Kitchen Witch, to the Ritual Witch, the Traditional Witch, the Divination Witch, the Weather Witch, the Religious Witch, hell (and there’s fire there too ), even an Atheist Witch uses fire - we all do.

Yep, it’s a part of our craft and I for one would be lost without that little spark of fire.

Hail the eternal flame. :fire:

Build your strength. When you find yourself with an empty nest, come out to California. We could use more wildfire fighters! It requires speed, dexterity, and training, but if you love it, we can help!

Love that! :fire:

Yes! :fire: Fireplaces, campfires, wood stoves… :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Love the smell of burning wood too, the crackling and the quiet hum… it’s a treat for all the senses at once :heart_on_fire: There’s something sensuous and hypnotizing in those dancing flames. Bright and all-consuming, like our own hunger and desire. Feed it and it’ll keep you warm for the night, let it run free and it’ll trap you in a blazing inferno and devour you too. :smiling_face_with_horns: :fire:

I don’t have much to share in the way of pictures, but I have been experimenting with spells using no tools, or minimal tools.

When I need energy for a spell and I don’t want to use my own, the simplest method is to draw on the energy of fire. I do this with a simple tealight candle – I light the candle, close my eyes, and sit with my left hand next to the flame and my right hand close to my body in a loose fist. Drawing in the energy of fire is simple once you know what you’re feeling for. Then, I release that energy after giving it a job (my intention), and it goes out into the world to do what needs to be done.

Some interesting things I’ve noticed with using fire’s energy for spellwork include…

  • The spells usually take effect very quickly, within hours or days.
  • The size of the fire matters in terms of the energy I’m drawing in. Smaller fires, like those of a candle flame, are easier to work with because the energy is smaller, so to speak. It’s not less potent, just less of it at once. If I were to draw on the energy of a bonfire instead, I think I would find it more difficult to contain and work with because there’s more of it concentrated in one area.
  • The spell doesn’t last very long. I use this kind of energy for spellwork that needs to happen quickly but doesn’t need to last very long. Fire’s energy is potent, but it fizzles out faster than the energy of Earth, for example. The spells I have done, while they took effect quickly, they lasted for no more than a week or two. If I were to pair fire’s energy with a talisman or some way to recharge the spell, the spell would last longer.
