Challenge Entry - Holiday Crafting
Below freezing temperatures and a trip to a wedding in Virginia, delayed completion of my Winter Tree Divination set. But I’ll share what I’ve got so far!
I decided to try making a set with light brown clay and using the black wash.
One side is the bark pattern, the other is etchings of the winter tree silhouettes.
My set currently includes:
- American Sycamore - Platanus occidentalis
- Sweetgum - Liquidambar styraciflua
- Eastern Red Cedar - Juniperus virginiana
- Loblolly Pine - Pinus taeda
- Tulip Tree - Liriodendron tulipifera
- American Beech - Fagus grandifolia
- Black Cherry - Prunus serotina
With additional ones, I will add after the challenge:
- River Birch - Betula nigra
- Ironwood (American Hornbeam) - Carpinus caroliniana
- Flowering Dogwood - Cornus florida*
- American Holly - Ilex opaca
- Persimmon - Diospyros virginiana
I haven’t decided how to finish them, maybe a clear glaze or a color-shifting glaze (I tried it on the grey clay set).
