The article mentions they will eat most plants. They dont like cactus or brunella but they will trim any flower or leafy plant that is beside them
Challenge Entry: Powerful Plants @TheMuslimWitch
For my challenge entry i would like to share the plants i have recently got. I chose Rosemary and cactuses for protection and keeping away unwanted trouble makers in my home. I have 3 rosemary plants
which are located at the front and back door and one outside my witch room and Cactuses are outside the main door and my witch room also.
I also store dried herbs for spell and ritual use and have herbs in the kitchen for cooking too. I hope to get more plants which can serve me well. Here is some pictures of the plants and a herb drying rack i made with a stick i found in the backyard with some rope:
I wish I could remember the name of the plant my mother had for getting rid of moles and gophers. They’d eat our crocus and spring bulbs from right next to our back door.
The plant was tall. It had pretty golden flowers in a crown atop a spike, but it smelled absolutely foul! Rain didn’t wash that away! The instructions were to plant it far from the house, but Mom wanted it close enough to affect both front and back yards. Neither of us wanted to do any gardening after that!
Challenge Entry
I don’t believe in coincidences—only fate, or the idea that what’s meant to be will always find a way. So when I saw this challenge, I knew I had to incorporate my new plants. (For context, my household has been sick non-stop, so I’m talking about when the challenge was first posted.) Just two days prior, I had decided to grow some herbs for both my spells and my cooking. I chose basil, cilantro, rosemary, and sage.
I’ve never intentionally grown anything before, assuming it would be kind of difficult for someone with ADHD. Thankfully, it hasn’t been! I finally talked myself into trying after managing to keep two gifted plants alive—one for a year, the other going on three. I’m not entirely sure what kind they are (possibly begonias?), but the fact that they’ve survived this long is a small victory I’m proud of.
I’m so excited to see some of my herbs sprouting! I can’t wait to use my own grown herbs for spells!
I know exactly how that feels. I’ve edited so many of my posts because I had speech diarrhea. However, I think you still skirted along the subject. It was interesting.
Challenge Entry
This is a new topic for me. I created a slide show of things and am looking into books. Here’s the slideshow
Witch Challenge - Powerful Plants
As far as she was concerned, coffee was a warm, delicious alternative to hating everyone forever. ~ Alex Fox
Coffee is a powerful plant. But that isn’t what this is about… wait… maybe it should be.
I am not an herbalist, green witch or kitchen witch. However, I can follow a recipe as long as I don’t have to cook much. I decided to do a summary of the most used medicinal herbs. I figured many would also be used in spell jars and oil based infusions to help with health spells, protection spells, anxiety reduction, etc. I often use them for health spells – such as the lighthouse spell here.
When I compiled the draft of this, I was surprised that I didn’t have a long list. Other than the things we probably all have in our cupboards, like salt (wait… not herby but is often used in oil infusions and protection spells and it also acts as a great preservative of the oil mixture), pepper, cinnamon, basil, ginger, and garlic. There are some very common herbs that can be acquired in local markets. I’m talking dried herbs – although some can be purchased fresh during parts of the year – dried is best for me because of the much longer shelf life.
I got the list by asking an AI to compile the most frequently used medicinal herbs. There are more for us witchy types, of course, but if we add in the ones in our kitchen cabinets, then we can get close to having a good multi-purpose stash. Of course, you could also grow your own if you are gifted that way. I’m not, sooooo … here is a list. If you can’t find them at a local shop. Amazon has most of them.
• Chamomile (tea bags) – has apigenin which relaxes and promotes sleep
• Turmeric – anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects
• Echinacea – immune system boost, fight colds
• Garlic (also in your cupboard?) – boost immune system, antiviral and antibacterial
• Ginger (cupboard?) – digestive and cardiovascular relief
• Ginkgo – memory, poor circulation, antioxidant
• Ginseng – immune system, energy, blood sugar regulation, cardiovascular relief
• Lavender – headaches, anxiety, wound healing
• St. John’s wort – depression, anxiety, ADHD, menstrual cramps, OCD
What happens if you have a recipe that calls for something you don’t have? Take a look on Spells8 here for substitutes. There is a lot of additional information on common herbs at that link! For instance, Mugwort can be used instead of Calendula flowers. Calendula comes up in spell bottle recipes occasionally. Mugwort is available as a tea so take a tea bag and mix up your potion. Mugwort tea also intensifies dreams and is available on Amazon.
Of course, buying all the above in the quantities sold normally means you would end up with a lot of stuff and probably considerable waste. I generally buy stuff sensibly (unlike my Tarot deck buying) – meaning only when I need it. Even with that, I have more than half the stuff above in my larder.
My SO just said she was going to get lavender so… some will likely go missing… the lavender fairies are notorious this time of year.
Witch Challenge Entry #2- Powerful Plant @TheMuslimWitch
I wanted to share my Anti-ageing moisturising cream which also doubles up for protection and self-love too made from Aloe Vera. Here’s the recipe:
’
Ingredients:
-5 Leaves of Aloe Vera peeled and blended) (Believed to promote immortality, banishes negative energy)
-1 TBSP of Olive oil (Amplifies intention, cleanses energy)
- 3 drops of rose oil (Love, positive energy)
- 3 drops geranium oil (Health, love, fertility, protection)
- 3 drops rosemary oil (protection, love, mental powers)
- 3 drops sandalwood (protection, spirituality, healing)
- 1 TBSP honey (abundance, healing, nourishment)
- 4 TBSP rice flour (nourishment, sustenance of life) - to thicken
Instructions:
After peeling the Aloe Vera, add oils, honey and rice flour and blend. Let sit in fridge for 2 hours and keep there when not in use for longer life.
Itchy feet? It may be Athlete’s Foot. Mix aloe vera with clove oil and apply generously to kill the fungus. Wear socks to keep the lotion from getting all over.
Caution: this may sting. Wash hands after use and before touching sensitive skin. Use a small container which will not be used for anything else as the scent doesn’t come out of the plastic.
I also use this for bunions and nail fungus.
@TheMuslimWitch
Thank you for the reminder and I love your spell I think I’m gonna have to jot this one down and use it for sure in my book of shadows!!!. I love Aloevera. I have lots of it and you know what I never even thought to use the aloe vera for my skin in a while and I have kind of some issues with my skin. “I’m getting older” lol

I’ve been planting my favorite, which is Rosemary for protection around the home. I just love Rosemary cause it has a sweet aroma and you can use it for cooking and there’s so much use for it. You can burn it. You can make ones you can cook with it with olive

Jeannie
@Jeannie1 Nice layout on the garden. It looks substantial and should really shine when everything gets going. Loved your detailed list of herbs.
I like the Lighthouse Spell - @BryWisteria posted it a while back and I needed something for a friend. It is easy and I got to make my first oil infusion. No heating involved, of course.
The cats look pampered.
I’ve done Tea Tree oil and aloe - same requirements about the container and the smell is wicked.
Hello, Millie. Now there’s a case of the yawn being bigger than the cat! So luxurious!
Thank you for the mushroom correspondences! This is great! Going in my BOS.
I just tried it, i think it is better to put another type of flour i looked it up and xanthum gum works better. I found the rice flour is grainy and perfect for a scrub
Witch Challenge for Amethyst:
I am so not good with plants, it’s not even funny. So I decided to try a new tea. I tried Jasmine Green tea because Jasmine is supposed to attract money, release muscle tension and boost your energy.
I don’t know, I had a cup of tea this morning while writing in on my Dreamwidth journal and posting my recipes here. I’ve got a ache in my shoulder muscles, and I’m still sort of tired. So I’m not sure if I didn’t steep it enough or if it didn’t have enough jasmine.
Let’s just hope the money thing works. LOL!
Thank you for the inspiration this morning @Amethyst ! I ran to look for my Jasmine green tea and then sat outside to enjoy it. I really do find it mood enhancing
Aw thank you
Your garden is so beautiful and I love the pics of your kitty
I’m glad it helped you! I was in a good mood already so yeah, didn’t need to enhance my mood. LOL!
No wonder you didn’t find it made a difference lol. I’m not a morning person so I definitely need “mood enhancers” every morning!
I just need waking up. So I might stick to a black tea, like Earl Grey. I don’t wake up easily, I wander about like a zombie for a good hour.
