@dan3 i really enjoy reading your posts. You have a way of speaking (typing) that resonates and I truly understand what you are saying. Thank you. I always look forward to your comments!
I love checking everyoneās stuff out. With me, getting stuff is a bug thatās as bad as the Tarot Deck bug. I see someoneās cool altar and think⦠āwow⦠I kinda like that thingy there.ā before I realize I would never use it⦠but might end up getting it anyway.
Aww⦠Thank you! That was nice.
I have a variety of grains of sandpaper the finer ones would be good for sharpening a scissors used to cut silk or fine fabrics. Course ones for paper, in my humble opinion. It seems as though nicks from accidentally cutting into wire or too many sheets of paper would be smoothed by the course grains. For those pairs of scissors which have gotten loose at the pivot, a hammer might tighten the bolt a bit if the screwdriver doesnāt, but tap lightly, please. A spritz of good WD40 once in a while will cleanse away the dust, helping the scissors stay in peak condition, too; but it may leave stains on the project materials if not scrubbed away before use.
@KylaD, Iām glad you are feeling more comfortable! This reflects growth even before learning to use the tool.
@tory, I like the idea of the acrylic shelf. I might put my BOS underneath so I can see through it and work on top so the ingredients donāt mess my pages. Your way of decorating is brilliant, too.
Thanks! I needed more space without messing up the look of the area, so came up with that!
@dan3 Iāve basically done the same type of thing, I originally practiced traditional Wicca & was using tools & doing them. I have been learning about and trying new things all the time, so my practice is definitely my own & there isnāt really a good way to describe it. Itās been a journey for sure, now itās finding the right balance between them. I have done deep dives & tried all kinds of things. Some things I have kept others, I havenāt or things have been adapted for my use. I think thatās what I like about being a practitioner. No 2 paths are the same whether or not you follow Wicca.
Wicca was my first introduction to magick, and in 1993 I was using Bucklandās Complete Book of Witchcraft and Wicca : A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham, and while I didnāt buy or make a wand then, I did feel that the athame was vital to my practice. I used it in my self-initiation ritual. Over time, Iāve shifted away from Wicca into my own practice and havenāt used my Athame since then, although I carry it in my travel altar bag in my purse.
My boline is a new addition, and as Iāve moved towards a green/nature/herbal practice, I wanted to have a knife specifically for harvesting herbs. I do use this knife frequently.
I donāt regret my athame purchase as it is a reminder of where my practice began.
IMHO a green witch should have a boline. You fit my idea of a wonderful green witch so, a boline (whether named a boline or not) would be part of your toolkit.
I understand that and actually feel good for reading it. I have a very few tools that my father left me and they are special (mundane, not magickal). Your inherited athame is awesome. For you, it has obtained a soul of its own. Thatās an automatic connectivity you will enjoy forever. Sweet!

I just got my athame a few weeks ago. I donāt remember exactly how I came across it, but when I saw it I just knew it was mine.
I still have to consecrate it. I canāt wait to use it on my plant babies I showed everyone on the last challenge!
Oh wow⦠thatās stunning! I love the blue/purple color gradient! And the basket weave pattern on the hilt?
The gradient is what caught my eye first!
This is where I got it if anyone is interested!
There are lots of gorgeous ones!
@little.elf.queen I just looked at the page. They have some super cool athames! It makes me feel like I need another one.
I just realize how many things Iāve lost during the move to my actual homeā¦
Iāve lost my athame
I think Iām going to buy a obsidian or selenite knife, at least for use ir to draw a circle around before casting any spell!
Challenge entry: Sacred Blades: Athames & Bolines @TheMuslimWitch
For my challenege entry i just wanted to share my athame and Boline. I have changed once for both in the last few years and will be hunting for new ones a little more my taste in December when the Oddities and Curiosities Expo comes to Sydney which i am saving for and soooo excited to finally do something for myself. Anyways here are mine:
I improvised on the boline as i found it was a little to expensive for me at the time when i brought it
Extention on the challenge entry above
I thought id use the virtual altar and check out the new things added. I thought about the theme we had and heres the altar i set up with this theme
I put a
- black candle for protection and a white candle to cleanse from the past
- wrote on the paper " release from the chains of the past"
- amerthyst cor calm and serenity, jet i think it was for protection, tigers eye for courage and rise quartz for self love.
- lavender for symbol of searching for peace and calm from the past and feathsr to symbol of being lighter once can release the past
- i dont normally work with physucal athame but in light of the theme i thought id put athame to symbol cutting the chsins of the past and a book of shadows to symbolise starting a new chspter.
- the incence symbolisibg the past burning away and being blown away to start anew
- i thhink i covered all the things i put on there lol i thought id check if it was new challenge but it was still tge previous athame one so since i have times ive missed challenges but this time id put a entry in and loggedin to this section i thought why not add an extention to my first challenge entry and try out the new features of the altarā¦though lol i remembered that could put runes on the candles and thought id go vack in to add those and found my altar like this
Seems if save altar but go back any csndles or insebse will be burnt out or melted ā¦ill rememver that for next time

Everyone has me thinking about magical blades outside the traditional Athame and boline, which led me to my basement to retrieve my great-grandmotherās sewing box and look at the scissors left there by my great-grandmother, grandmother, aunt, and birth mother. A few of them are well-made and quite heavy. I kept the box upstairs, now it houses scrapbooking things for me, including some scissors that my daughter and I got for scrapbooking and trimming edges.
One of the heavy steel sets has serrated blades⦠I know what that is called and I know what they are used for, but currently⦠My brain doesnāt want to do what itās supposed to do
Let me help you out. I believe they are called pinking shears, for helping keep edges from fraying.
Yep, youāre right! Iāve got a pair of pinking shears as well but I donāt often use them.
My favorite sewing scissors are a delicate Crane handled pair. Should see if I can find mine
One of the least used but most important for me. I end up making only a few cuts with them even on larger projects but it is worth having them. They ācutā down on the mess and make sewing edges/seams a lot neater. A good pair can become an heirloom - they last a long time.

Iāve really loved seeing everyoneās athames, bolines and other sacred blades! Iāve been struggling with what to do for this challenge, especially since Iāve never used an athame in my practice (preferring a wand or my finger). I had one that I didnāt use because I never connected with it.
I have been thinking I need a boline though, as my special little herb clippers just are cutting it anymore!
I got this one last week and used a wood burning tool to carve the Triple moon on the handle and a sigil I created on the other side. Tomorrow Iāll consecrate it.
