Witch Challenge for Amethyst:

Hey all! I wasn’t sure just what to do for this challenge, and then I realized. I didn’t know who the Irish God/Goddess of dreams was. So I set out to figure that out and wrote a spell to go with it. I hope y’all like it!

Caer Ibormeith Info and Spell

Caer Ibormeith is the Irish Goddess of Dreams and Prophecy. Caer, pronnounce “Keer” was a shape-shifting goddess who would turn into a swan every other year, along with her 150 handmaidens.

Due to this, she is also known as a goddess of death, as swans are seen as guides to the Otherworld. She was also a goddess of sovereignty, due to the fact that when a suitor came to her father to ask for her hand in marriage, she was more powerful than he. Her father couldn’t force her into marrige and she had to agree to it.

She made her own way in the world and chose her own husband. She appeared to Aengus Óg, son of the Goddess Bóann of Newgrange (Brugh na Bóinne) and The Dagdha, father of the Tuatha de Danann.

Every night for a year, he dreamed of her. Longed for her. To touch her and draw her into his bed. He fell in love with her and wanted her in his bed.

After a while, he became sick and wouldn’t eat. Wouldn’t get out of bed. He wasted away, wanting to do nothing but sleep, until a doctor was called.

The doctor told his family he was love-sick. His parents searched for over two years to find Aengus’ dream woman. Finally, the Dagda visited Bodb, the King of the Sidhe of the area of Munster, to find her.

It took him another year, but finally he found her, and that her father was Ethal Anbuail, of Connaught. When the Dagda and Boann asked that their son be wed to his daughter, he said that she ruled her own life, and he could not give her hand without her permission.

He then explained that she was a shapeshifter, and that year she was a swan. Every Samhain, she would change, from swan to beautiful woman. Ethal told them to have Aengus go to Loch Bél Dracon on the following Samhain, and for him to pick her swan form out among her 150 handmaidens. Only then would she make the decision to marry him.

And so Aengus did. He went to the lake and tried to figure out which swan was hers. They all had silver chains around their neck, all but one. That swan had a silver and gold chain that shone in the light.

He called to Caer, and she came to him, all the other swans moving out of her way. He asked her to marry him, and she agreed, on one condition. If he promised her she could return to the water, and her way of life.

Aengus agreed and used his own powers to turn himself into a swan. They flew around the lake, singing a song so beautiful it was said to put all of Ireland to sleep for three days.

Even today, some say you can hear their song of love on Samhain Eve.

So this makes Caer a good Goddess to call on for dreams, prophecy, sleep, love, and taking charge of your own life. Connect to her when you are trying your dream man, or to help create more loving relationships.

How to Pronounce Caer Ibromeith

Spell to have a peaceful night’s sleep:

Grab a white candle, a cup of your favorite bedtime tea, and either an amethyst or a piece of selenite. Settle in with some calming music, light the candle, and as your tea steeps, say:

Lovely Caer Ibormeith, she of the white wings and golden voice, hear my plea!
Bring deep sleep and gentle dreams to me!
Let fluffy clouds fill my head,
and transform any nightmares so to protect my bed!

So mote it be!

THIS IS MY ENTRY FOR THE WITCH CHALLENGE

I love making spirit dolls!! :purple_heart: This spirit doll is made as a dream catcher, to promote good sleep and happy dreams. I think come summer I can weave lavender into the strings above her head, what do you think?
I made the little face from airdry clay and mounted it on a stick I found on a walk. The rest is fabric scaps, feathers, wool and some beads for decoration.

What a treat to learn about a new dream goddess! I really like the part about Her love song being heard o Samhain Eve. It seems fitting for a multifaceted diety of dreams, death, and romance. This was fun to read! Thank you for the wisdom and the beautiful spell

Your spirit doll is gorgeous! I think they look lovely as they are, although I also think your idea of a lavender crown in summer is fun - it would look impressive (and lavender is another boost for good sleep) :purple_heart: Beautifully made, Katharina!

This puts another spin on the story when Hansel and Gretel rode a swan home from the witch’s gingerbread house. Thanks for this.

Beautiful!

You’re welcome! I thought I’d do some research this time. Glad you liked!

It does, doesn’t it? A lot of the Irish Goddess were drawn to swans. I guess they had a lot of them over there.

Challenge entry - Sleppy Spellwork @TheMuslimWitch

I will keep this simple seeming it is Ramadan and lack of energy and all, but i usually make a lavender satchel, but for the sake of this entry i will share a very well known and simple solution to help sleeping which is my blend of Lavender and Chamomile tea. I can sometimes find it hard to sleep, and i do not of late intentionally hope to dream as that also can leave me feeling tired or waking up confussed, so reading a book and a nice cup of the Lavender and chamomile tea is a grweta way to slip off to dream land (so to say).

I love your spirit doll. I bought myself some air dry clay so I may try something like this.

Making spirit dolls is soooo relaxing! I´ll always be just playing with the clay making a whole bunch of random faces and let them dry. I´m keeping them in a drawer. When a spirit doll wants to come into this world I can choose and find a face that´ll fit the energy. It´s mostly when I go on walks that I will find a fine stick that inspires me to create a figure. All my spirit dolls have one or more sticks as a body. It´s a fun process.
