I saw on todays email that there is a section on writing prayers to deities, the universe and ancestors. I would like to write to the universe but do I do it as if I was just just writing to a person? Also, what do I do with it then? Do I bury it, burn it, lock it away?
Hello @LunarEssence,
That’s a great question! Before writing your letter, I’d take some time to think about your bond with the Universe. Do you picture It in a certain way? Some people connect better with the divine when they see Them/It as a deity (person-like, or with human features), while others envision the Universe as the Earth, the elements, space, or even as part of themselves. There are no right or wrong answers here- work with the divine powers in the way that feels best to you.
Once you have a grasp on how you see the Universe, you’ll have a better idea of your own unique bond with It. Is this a higher power that you worship and look up to, the world around you, a part of you, or something else? Again- no right or wrong answers here! Knowing your position with the Universe will help you find a comfortable way to address It in your letter
There are many potential ways to “send” the letter- you might leave it on your altar or tuck it away in a safe place to rest, burn it in a ritual fire , release the paper into the ocean , bury it , leave it in a special place (such as an altar in the woods or sacred site, if allowed), etc.
Different people handle sacred materials in different ways- if you’re not sure, I would consider the options and give one a try. If it doesn’t feel right, no worries! It’s all part of the learning on the journey. With time, you will find the things that work best for you
Blessed be!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I see the universe as a higher source of power/energy but also as space/time/elements/the earth. That then encorporates deities. Xx
It’s my pleasure, @LunarEssence- I’m happy if I could help!
I think that’s a beautiful way to view the Universe
Perhaps you could address the letter as “To the Universe and All It Encompasses”, “To All and None”, or alternatively you could simply leave the address empty- the Universe encompasses so much, leaving it blank could be seen as a sign of addressing everything all at once.
I hope you find the way that feels best to you, LunarEssence- good luck and happy writing!
Blessed be
I don’t have much to add since @BryWisteria really covered everything I’m just here to wish you positivity and hope that your letter to the Universe is what you need it to be!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Xx
I feel like I should light a candle whilst writing my letter but what colour? I would usually use brown for manifestation and I kind of feel like it’s very similar. Xx
Actually, thinking on it more, i think white feels better. Xx
Personally, I would probably choose white but if you’re writing a letter for something specific, you could choose a candle color that corresponds with your intention. White is always a good option, though
I’m going to second (third? ) you and Megan- white is a great color, often called the “universal color” for magickal workings. Seems like a perfect choice for a letter to the Universe!
