Announcement: Update to the Forum Guidelines [April, 2026]

Merry meet to all,

We’re racing toward Beltane and some lovely warmer weather here in the Northern Hemisphere, but it’s never too late for spring cleaning! :broom: In addition to our usual efforts to keep the forum tidy and organized, we have one small update to announce: there has been an addition to the Forum FAQ/Guidelines in the Sharing Content section, specifically the notes about using AI in the forum.

The general guidelines around AI use in the forum have not changed. This addition comes by request and has been added to provide guidance when handling and interacting with content created by fellow coven members.

Here is the full section of the guidelines with the highlighted update:

The above note has been added to the official guidelines and will go into effect TODAY: April 14, 2026 .

A friendly reminder that while the guidelines are here to help nurture a safe and welcoming safe, posting responsibility ultimately lies with each individual. If you haven’t already read the Site Terms of Service and the Forum Guidelines, please do so! (You may even get a special reward for reading them  :medal_sports: )

Moving Forward :railway_track:

To reiterate, AI Content is still allowed in the forum with a label - the addition of this note is simply to provide guidance when handling things made or owned by others within the space of Generative AI. If you would like to use Gen AI to alter someone’s photo or interact with/edit their writing, please check with them for their permission first.

Please also be aware that this update is specific to Generative AI, and does not pertain to text-to-speech readers or other accessibility tools used by those with disabilities. If you require aids in order to access and enjoy the content here at Spells8, please know you are welcome to do so!

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out in the comments below (or message the moderator team)- we are here to help you.

As we race through spring and approach early summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope the season continues to be a prosperous and fun time for the forum and the wonderful Infinite Roots Coven :infinite_roots:

Blessed be!

Is there any way that as a forum community we can discuss whether AI-generated content SHOULD be allowed? As witches, a lot of us follow nature-honoring practices, and all should be educated on the negative effects that AI has on humans, wildlife, and the environment. My own community is facing increased energy costs, water pollution and consumption issues, and deforestation due to AI data centers, as well as noise pollution.

My opinion is that AI has no place in witchcraft or witch communities. I might have to leave this lovely forum if a firmer stance against AI is not taken, which is a shame because the people are lovely. I’ve seen things that may be AI-generated but are not labeled as such which goes against this policy. AI-generated content also goes against the magic and wonder of human creativity, the divine gift of Awen.

Just to note that under UK law any copyrighted material which would include artists and creators is not allowed to be used to train AI without the legal permission of the creator. We have tight copyright here so if anyone puts UK work into AI it’s illegal. There are also copyright laws for CGW and works created using AI as a tool under additional laws.

These laws are constantly being revised as the scene is changing, the above is current but it’s worth keeping updated. Just as we’re international letting you know so no-one gets in a jam.

AI and the ethics surrounding it, both in the mundane context and within spiritual spaces, is a very hot topic at the moment. There have been a few discussions about AI where folks share their honest thoughts and feelings about it. So long as the guidelines are being adhered to (conversations stays respectful, it doesn’t degrade into a political debate, etc), I agree wholeheartedly with you - technology is definitely something worth exploring and having open conversations about!

Please feel free to jump into one of the current AI discussions (such as AI and the Craft ) or feel free to continue the conversation here.

You’re right - any content a user generates with AI should be labeled as such. I try to keep my eyes out for any AI content that accidentally went unlabeled, but there is a lot of wonderful content to sort through here in the forum each day and I’m sure I miss things. If there isn’t a label on it somewhere in the discussion (the notice may be in the opening/first post, a watermark on the image, or written into the text, etc - sometimes it isn’t obvious at first glance!) please either make a note or flag the post and I (or another Mod) will assist :handshake:

That is excellent to know! As someone who has a lot of creative content out there on the web, it’s reassuring to see governments take a stance to protect the works of creators. I hope this helps protect content crafted in the future, and I continue to hope that the writers, artists, and other creators who already had their works stolen to train GenAI models will receive compensation. Here’s to hoping!

Thank you for sharing, Tracy

I mean this with the greatest possible respect, but that is a complete non-response. Calling it a “hot topic” is refusing to take a stand for what’s right. Reassuring words mean nothing when my community is facing devastation because of the energy demand and environmental devastation of AI data centers.

It has no place in witchcraft. Period. I won’t just keep debating this if the website/forum admin refuse to implement a stronger policy that disallows ANY AI-generated content.

We do not need it. We have divinely gifted Awen; it is our human creativity that gives us access to our magic and our spirituality. AI goes against everything we stand for.

If we don’t start boycotting witchcraft spaces and products that use AI, then this practice will die. It only works by the divine creativity that flows through us, not content generated by a water-consuming machine.

Hello @bethany,

I understand your stance and your strong emotions about the topic. I also empathize with the drive to make positive change. While I have shared my personal opinions about AI before, please understand that I am here and posting as a Moderator of the community and I try my best to uphold the community guidelines in their current form. This often requires a delicate balancing act between opposing sides and differing beliefs. We have a wide variety of practicing folks here with differing stances about the role of science, technology, religion, and other influences on the Craft and all have the right to share their side respectfully.

On that note, if you would like to express your feedback in a more “official” way, there is a Contact Form on Spells8 where you can submit your ideas, suggestions, and thoughts. I am just one of many contributors in this spiritual community and I apologize that I cannot promise any specific changes, but please know that your voice is heard.

Much love and many blessings.
