Hello I’m Tracy. I practice Nordic witchcraft which involves things like runes. I also practice chaos and demonolatry. Welcome to the coven. We have witches of all paths so you may get different perspectives to your question depending on their practice.

I don’t think @Francisco has done it yet, I checked the main site, he is doing all the letters but I couldn’t find S, so I’ve tagged him in, so I can only answer from a Norse witch perspective.

S in Norse is the serpents journey. It’s the journey of the soul through life, the first and second journey as in Norse spirituality, the soul (you) go through 3 journeys.

The wounding

The Realisation and Reconciliation

The Awakening

The first 2 are part of the Serpents path which is represented by S. This is where your life has ups and downs, some good some bad and develops your shadow and light. Part 2 of the Serpents journey is where you start to see those parts and then learn to integrate them as a whole you instead of fight or dismiss them.

Once you’ve done this (and it takes years) you then reach the Eagle, which in Norse is where you become enlightened and start a true spiritual journey into the final stage which is wisdom.

Wisdom is where you are fully at peace with yourself and the world, not to be mistaken for acceptance or goodness, but an actual still peace, like the Dalia Lama.

Hope this helps, hopefully @Francisco can offer a more wiccan or other perspective.

Hi @marie and welcome to the forum! :purple_heart: I don´t have specific information on symbolism of letters, but as an art-witch I would encourage you to give it your own meaning! It´s sacred if you make it so! :purple_heart:
To me, the letter “S” would certainly be connected to the Kundalini Snake and the rising of energies, but also to “Sun” and the warmth and power it represents. But that´s just a personal take.
I bet others will show up as well and share their wisdom!

:hugs:

Hello @marie,

Welcome to the forum!

There is an ongoing Spiritual Meaning of Letters collection on the site, but we’re only up to Q right now - S is on the way! In the meantime, Tracy and Katharina have some great wisdom about the letter and its associations.

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! Please make yourself at home here.

Blessed be!

Hi, @marie! Welcome to the forum! I’m Amethyst, an Eclectic Witch. Nice to meet you!

Like the others, I don’t have much on the letter S. I did find something, The Letter S: Spiritual Meaning and Symbolism, when I googled, but I’m sure Fransico’s will be much better. Still, hopefully that’ll help you with what you need.

And if it helps, I always thinks of Snakes when it comes to the letter S. To me, the snake is an animal symbolizing healing and renewal. Sometimes, what YOU think of something is more important than what other’s think. So go with your gut! It won’t lead you wrong.

Hope this helps!

There was some great insight already given here by Tracy, katharina, Bry and Kasie. Let me just add that to me, it’s a letter of Balance!

It hides in plain sight in the archetypical Yin / Yang illustration:

So we can associate it with flow, the element Water, (also as mentioned before the Snake :snake: and the Sacral chakra), the symbol of infinity, :infinity: the triskele :triskele:, the rune Sowilo :sowilo: and other symbols of creation and creativity.

We will add a new printable page for the Letter S later this month (after letter R which is coming out this week!). So I’ll make sure to post it here.

Goodness me, why didn’t I ever notice that?? I can´t even tell how many times in my life I drew Yin/Yang symbols and it never occured to me.
