Hello everyone,
Welcome to part 3 of our exploration of the Planetary Returns. Last week, we explored what solar returns are and what they can reveal about the year ahead. If you missed this post or need a reminder, you can find it here:
This week we are focusing on the Jupiter Return. We will explore what it is and how we can use them to our advantage.
What is the Jupiter Return?
Jupiter represents expansion and good-fortune. It brings optimism, a sense of adventure and a desire for exploration to understand the bigger picture. It’s our appreciation of world cultures, our attitude towards higher education and our desire to seek the answer to life’s big questions. On your natal chart, Jupiter lies within a sign and a house at an exact degree. When Jupiter returns to this exactly degree in this sign, it marks your Jupiter Return. This occurs every 12 years or so.
This means that Jupiter returns will occur at around ages 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 and possibly even 84 and 96. Looking at past Jupiter returns can help you to understand growth that has occurred or abundance that has been accrued during these periods.
Themes of Jupiter Returns
If you can remember back to age 12, there is likely to have been some sort of growth of awakening as you transitioned into your teenage years, marking your first Jupiter return. It’s when you begun to crave more independence, we began to look at life’s big questions and perhaps even begun considering the bigger picture in terms of future careers etc. Ultimately, we started this return as children and ended it as adults with a very different outlook.
Your second return occurs around age 24. It’s when many are really beginning to take their place in society with established jobs, relationships. Opportunities may come knocking but can be missed. therefore it is important to remain focused and allow yourself to be inspired by opportunities that are presented.
The third return occurs around age 36 and can be seen as one of career advancement and perhaps even change. It may also mark the expansion of the family through the introduction of children or establishing deeper family ties. We may also question our established spiritual and religious view, seeking those that align more to our values.
The fourth return occurs around age 48. It may be a period of mid life reflection, where we take some time to introspect and perhaps reassess and alter our life path. We may also brine the mentor to others, where we pass on our wisdom, knowledge and experiences. This may also prompt us to consider the legacy we plan to build and leave.
The fifth return occurs around age 60 and can be seen as the transition into retirement and the planning of life after work. We may reflect on the life we have lived and the lessons that we have learned, passing it on to others… We may also celebrate our achievements and the abundance Ed gave been lucky enough to accumulate. Personal beliefs may continue to evolve, with increased interest in spirituality.
The sixth return occurs around age 72 and the focus turns to what we will leave behind, both physically and spiritually. You may experience increased desire to help others through community and charitable events. Ultimately, this return marks the joy we gain from the simple pleasures we have in life.
Finding your Jupiter Return
You can calculate your Jupiter return using the link below:
In the birth chart section, enter your birth date time and location.
In the Return of the planet menu, choose Jupiter.
Choose the year that you want to show the returns from. You may want to choose your birth year to see when previous returns have occurred or choose 2024 to show when the next ones will occur.
In the location, you enter where you currently reside, not where you were born.
Click CALCULATE RETURNS
You will then see a list of upcoming ( and previous, depending on the year you used) Jupiter returns. You may find, like, me, that you are currently in the first few years of a new cycle or perhaps you are entering the last part before a new cycle.
From the table, you can view the chart for a specific return by clicking on RETURN CHART.

Example
My last Jupiter return occurred in 2020 so I am now a third of the way through the cycle. It occurred in Capricorn in my 7th house.
Looking at the interpretations, it says:
Jupiter in Capricorn: Be Ambitious, disciplined, responsible and practical.
7th House: Relationships and partnerships are emphasised. You may attract beneficial relationships or deepen existing ones. This is a great time for collaboration and networking. Nurture your partnerships and explore new connections.
This could be interpreted as:
Aim to approach partnerships with a goal-oriented mindset. Seek relationships that align with your long-term ambitions. Focus on how your partnerships can enhance your professional and personal aspirations. Being responsible and disciplined in your interactions can lead to stronger, more reliable connections. Take the time to invest in your relationships, and be willing to put in the effort required to nurture them. You may prefer partnerships that have a solid foundation and are built on mutual respect and shared goals. Avoid superficial connections; instead, focus on meaningful relationships that offer tangible benefits. Attract individuals who can help you achieve your goals. Look for mentors or partners who share your ambitions and can provide support. Engage in collaborative projects that align with your professional interests. Seek out partnerships that allow you to combine strengths and resources effectively.
Set intentions, create vision boards, try new things, take risks, stay open to opportunities that come your way and practice gratitude for what you do have. This will all help you to harness the power of the Great Benefic.
Next week we will explore Saturn returns, probably the best known returns. This will mark the end of this mini unit.
Blessed Be
