Do I need to worry about this? Anxiety-Checker Tarot Spread

Merry meet!

Do you have a thought nagging at you over and over again? And you’re not sure if it’s actually worth the energy to be thinking about, or if it’s just anxiety brain having a tantrum? I sure do

Here’s a quick spread to get a second opinion (and guidance, if needed) from your deck.

Do I need to worry about this?

Anxiety-Checker Tarot Spread

  1. Shuffle your deck, focusing on the issue or thought that is bothering you.
  2. Ask (out loud or firmly in your mind): “Is this something I need to worry about?”
  3. Draw a card.
  4. Check to see whether is a Major Arcana or Minor Arcana card and whether it is Upright or Reversed.

Major vs. Minor:
If the card is a Minor Arcana card - the answer is no. Although it may feel stressful, it’s a minor issue and your guides believe it is not something worth worrying over.
If the card is a Major Arcana card - the answer is yes. Your guides believe this is a major concern, and you should take action to begin preparing or remedying the situation.

Upright vs. Reversed:
If the card is Upright - the situation is straightforward. Examine the card and its meanings for advice on how to release your worries (if it’s a Minor Arcana) or how best to begin handling the situation (if it’s a Major Arcana).
If the card is Reversed - the situation may be complicated and will require careful thought in how to move forward. Examine the card and its meanings for advice on potential challenges that might become bigger problems (if it’s a Minor Arcana) or insight on key influences about the problem (if it’s a Major Arcana).

Example readings:

[ 1 ] “New neighbors are moving in next door. Is this something I need to worry about?”

Card: Ten of Cups, Upright

Interpretation: As a Minor Arcana, no - the neighbors are not something worth worrying about. As an upright card, there’s not much more to this. Additionally, the Ten of Cups is a positive card of emotional stability and success. The art on my card shows a happy family. It’s really not something to worry about, in fact, it looks like the new arrival may be a positive influence in the neighborhood.

[ 2 ] “I have a sense that I took too much spotlight in the game last night. Is this something I should be worrying about?”

Card: Five of Swords, Reversed

Interpretation: As a Minor Arcana card, it’s not a huge deal and not something to stay up late worrying over but being Reversed says let’s take a closer look. The Five of Swords is a card of conflict and when Reversed can represent dropping the swords of a dispute to come together and work through differences for a peaceful collaboration. The previous game was exciting and it was okay to act this time, but in future games, it will be good to be more aware that everyone is staying involved so that we can continue to have fun playing together.

This is awesome! I have problems with mild paranoia. Like, I wonder if people are talking about me. Most of the time, I don’t care, but every once in a while, it bugs me. So this will be a BIG help! Thanks so much, Bry!

I got a very mixed message. It was minor arcana, but 8 of swords! Still not sure if I need to worry. Hoping it was meaning the person I was asking about and not me

It’s a pleasure - I hope the spread can be helpful for you, Amethyst!

You’re welcome, Eira! Good luck and I hope the spread can help you find answers

I can see how that particular card could be confusing in this spread! As the reader, you’re closest to the situation and will be able to read it best, but if I may, I’d like to slide a secondary opinion on the table in hopes of helping you lay your worries to rest.

As a minor arcana, the card points to the situation being a minor issue - it’s not something worth keeping you up late at night. The card is upright, too, so that points to the situation being relatively straightforward - nice!

With these facts in mind, we can examine the details and meaning of the card for advice on how to release the worries from your mind and cut yourself free. The 8 of Swords traditionally depicts a woman surrounded by swords. At first glance, she appears trapped by these weapons (swords, associated with air, which often represent our thoughts) - but if we look closer, there are gaps between the swords and no one else around. One interpretation is that, although the woman on the card is dealing with a difficult situation, she has the means to cut herself free and the ability to escape if she puts her mind to it.

Looking at this, I’d suggest another way to read the 8 of Swords upright in the Anxiety-Checker Spread is a form of empowerment. You have the power to cut yourself free from the worries currently holding you in place. There are escape routes available to you and opportunities waiting beyond. In this way, I’d see the card as both backing up the initial reading (the situation is a minor and straightforward issue not to be stressing over) and encouraging you to begin moving past it.

Just my thoughts on the table! Whatever is worrying you, Shari, I hope you’re able to find peace

Blessed be!

Love this! That’s a great guiding question for a pendulum too… should I be worried about this?
