Lately, I’ve been thinking about something, and I’d really love to hear how other witches feel about it.
In my opinion being a witch doesn’t mean that bad things will never happen to you.
Difficult situations, negative emotions, and challenging experiences are still part of life.
But I feel that, as a witch, i can learn to work through these experiences in different ways — whether through spellwork, grounding, meditation,…
Sometimes, I get the feeling that something around me needs my attention, or that I should perform a spell to address a particular situation.
There are also moments when I interpret what’s happening around me as possible negative energy or even black magic !!!
The thing is, sometimes I simply don’t feel like I have the energy to do anything about it. And other times, even when I feel that something negative might be going on, I wonder whether it’s actually important enough to deserve my time and energy.
Do we really have to respond to every negative feeling or situation we encounter? Is it okay to let something go without performing a spell or trying to change it? And how do you distinguish between a situation that genuinely deserves your attention and one that’s better left alone?
I’m beginning to wonder whether part of being a witch is not only learning how to work with our energy, but also learning when not to use it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and personal experiences. Have you ever chosen not to do a spell because you didn’t feel it was worth your energy?
Interesting thankyou for sharing. Personally I feel we live in a very toxic positivity culture which makes any slight mishap into a huge descent into darkness. Life is dark and light (sun and moon) and to live in permanent light leads to burnout, in my view.
I work with spirits, real ones, not archetypes, and I was taught how to channel them and allow “possession” (it’s called horsing in shamanism) where the spirit speaks through you and pulls my runes. Yes, I’ve encountered heavy deities/spirits, ones that are uninterested (Murmur from the goetia really couldn’t be bothered with me ), and some that are intense - but never evil! I don’t however channel human/ dead people because I’ve been taught that if a person was bad when alive, there is no difference when dead may or may not be true, I’m too busy to find out
But yes I agree, sometimes it just ain’t worth the attention to focus on every detail and in the end, when I studied with The College of Psychic Studies, the teacher said Angels & Demons are never negative, neither are gods, it’s the humans that cause most problems, and though there are a few feeders, they are really rare and easily removed.
Here’s the link as a similar question was asked about the clairs
I listed the things I learnt when I did the training at The college in the above post.
The future no, other people sometimes, and they’ve always used either my divination method (runes as I’m pretty useless at tarot) or dreams that repeat again and again until I pay attention.
With divination, they have also spoken through a professional tarot reader that I go to, and through a medicine man, who I call on too. Sometimes I do this as I want an un-biased view.
Regarding the future, they tend to read the place I’m in, and help me make decisions going forward looking at different outcomes depending which path I take, but the future is changeable so in my view difficult to predict
If you want to connect outside of yourself, research a spirit that you feel you can relate to, and try the spiritual phone call ritual, have your divination or note book to hand and write whatever you feel, see or hear, don’t edit, just note it down.
The psychological weight of needing to have every answer or solve every problem is immense. It leads to anxiety, burnout, and a fear of failure that can paralyze our decision-making processes. We need a “growth mindset,” where the gap in our knowledge becomes the space where learning happens. (mostly from Snugfam.com)
I’d rather someone be honest and bitchy with me instead of than give me a false smile. The false smiles make me paranoid. And while I try not to take out my bad feelings on others, I don’t deny them. They’re just as valid as the good feelings. Repress them too much, and bad things will happen.
But yeah, endlessly cheerful people remind me of the Stepford Wives. And not everything is our responsibility to change. Some things are others’ responsibility. Witches are not some, pardon the expression, magic wand to make the universe perfect. It’s not gonna work.
