I’m looking for some help with crafting an essential oil blend to help me open my mind to new ideas and stay focused. I’m attending a zoom workshop soon and while I’m interested in the topic zoom is so…zoom. I’m either going to add it to a candle or my oil diffuser.
I know patchouli is good for that, but honestly the overwhelming out of patchouli from concerts and ritual circles in the 90s can make me queasy when I am around it. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Similarly, I’m looking for suggestions of tea blends that could help me stay open and in the moment. I love tea but I am always unsure what is going to taste good and be effective. I just always default to whatever is on hand and put my intention into the brewing. I’m hoping to learn more about blending teas though this Yule season.
Off the top of my head, some good essential oils for focus and clarity are lemon and orange – probably most citrus oils, honestly. They help promote a sense of focus and clarity. I’m not much of a tea person myself, but I gathered some tea, incense, and oil recipes from the Witch’s Apothecary lesson that might be helpful for you.
And then @Cosmic_Curiosity created a wonderful post with essential oil blends that you can find here.
Megan has you covered on the essential oils - second that list by @Cosmic_Curiosity, there are some great suggestions in there to help you craft a suitable blend of oils
The mindful mint tea blend that Megan shared is a great one - mint is awesome because it can be both relaxing (reducing stress) while also helping to hone into the moment and be present.
Another tea that can help with focus is black tea. The kick of caffeine, while not as much as coffee, can help increase focus and energy on a task.
If you’re sensitive to caffeine like I am, I’ve found a nice green tea will work, too - it has some caffeine, but less than most black teas.
That’s a lovely goal to have! As an avid tea enthusiast, I’d encourage you to keep trying different ones. There are so many types of teas out there, and it can be a lot of fun to experiment with blends!
If you’re able, I’d keep a little notebook or journal and write down what you think of each tea you try. Then when you’re ready to start making your blends, you can look back and pick out the blends/teas you likes, and which ones you didn’t.
The tea notebook is a great idea. I’m actively looking for some blends to try out, but I definitely need to journal how they work out and how they taste! Thank you.
Do you have a base tea that you really like? Like black tea, green tea, or white tea? If so, that’s a good place to begin exploring. If you know you like black tea, you can then branch out into the mixes - earl grey (a black tea with bergamot), chai (black tea with cinnamon, ginger, and other spices), etc.
Unlike black, green, white, and roobios/red tea, herbal teas are kind of a free-for-all. Any plant steeped in hot water could be classified as “herbal tea”, which can get rather overwhelming when you’re getting started!
If I can put a thought on the table, I’d start with the basic blends and then expand your branches from there
