If you have experience (or heard of experiences) dealing with psychic residue in a specific location, like an area of land, what was your experience? Were there any after effects that you noticed later? Would be great to hear what you know on this topic.

Do you mean like, visiting a place and something coming home with you? I’ve heard of it, but not dealt with it myself. It’s one of the dangers of going on Ghost Hunts and things like that.

Just to make sure I understand, by psychic residue, do you mean leftover energy from someone who was a psychic/magickal practitioner in the area, or like Amethyst suggested, lingering energy from a spirit?
If it’s leftover energies from a psychic, handling it depends on how you feel about it. You could potentially draw on the lingering energy to help power your own spells. Alternatively, if the energy feels bad or counterproductive, I’d suggest cleansing it.
Same with lingering energy from a spirit or entity - if it was a positive or neutral presence, you might leave it as is or attempt to channel it. If it’s negative energy, cleanse! I’d suggest a method such as sound, crystals, or spells with biodegradable ingredients. Skip the salt - although salt is very cleansing, it could potentially damage the health of the land.

In a way, yes, if this was someone’s experience. I wasn’t really thinking of ghosts, more like the energies of a place or the land, and how one dealt with those energies in the moment and afterwards. When I think of psychic residue, it’s a bit more negative than positive (like a negative energy).

When I think of psychic residue, I think of it as the energy of a place or the land area itself, which of course could be affected by a spirit or other people’s practices.
I guess I was wondering if anyone is familiar with working with land energies, and best practices around that. And if psychic residue present, at what point would a land healing practice be called for and what would that look like to them.

There’s a channel on YouTube called Awake Nation. And they have lots of music there for cleansing your body, soul, and house. That may help you. That’s what I use to cleanse mostly. It’s easier than trying to get smoke in all the corners of my apartment, but my place is small. You may need to do something else if you have a bigger home.

There’s one that comes to mind that may not be exactly what you need, but could be adapted to suit the situation. Here it is:

Wow, this has been an interesting read, so many wonderful answers already. I’ll add by saying you can use runes to heal land spirits or negative entities in a land/home. The rune 
is a very gentle energy and can neutralise spirits/entities without making them hostile to you or even evicting them.

This can be modified for outside. I would adapt the ritual like so:
Bring a bowl of water with you to the space.
Sit down, and place the bowl in front of you.
Raise arms up, palms facing up and gently tell the spirits/land you mean no harm.
Dip your finger in the water and draw onto the earth then into the air.
Dip your finger again into the water and draw 
onto the earth, then into the air.
Let the runes take care of the rest.

I’ve experienced something similar to what you’re talking about. I used to live in Florida, and when we first moved there, the apartment complex that we moved to had a very heavy, thick energy associated with it. It wasn’t just the unit that we moved into; it was actually the entire complex. The whole land area that the neighborhood was in just felt kind of gross and icky.
One of the first things I like to do when I move to a new place is introduce myself to any spirits that are connected to the land; so not resident human spirits or spirits tied to people or the apartment or whatever, but nature spirits, land spirits that were there long before people and the apartments, and what is generally known as the Genius Loci. Well, when I did this in Florida, I got a very large energetic pushback. It was like the land and the guardian spirits of the area were telling me to leave them alone. They didn’t need my help, they didn’t want to interact with me; they were minding their own business, and I was to mind my own business. They didn’t want me poking around in their energy or interacting with them at all.
That’s totally fine. That is their prerogative as beings, so I just let it be. We eventually moved out of that apartment complex because it was horrible, and I personally feel like the reason it was so bad there was because of the different energies of the people who lived there and the spirits of the land trying to compensate for the chaotic energies that everyone would bring to the area.
So, I personally believe that land spirits are fully capable of taking care of themselves and handling their own sort of energetic cleansing of the area that they are connected to. That doesn’t mean you can’t help. That doesn’t mean you can’t give offerings or acts of service, such as cleaning up trash or watering plants, or even learning about the different species that call that place home, but unless you feel extremely called to, I probably wouldn’t intervene in any sort of land spirit healing process, if that makes sense.

Actually, my experience in the area started off pretty nice, though later when looking back I think I know what happened. It was a beautiful nature setting, and I was just taking it all in and admiring the area. Though, maybe I was in a “too-open” psychic kind of way of taking it all in while there, since I later had a distinctly unpleasant dream that night. Anyway, in that more open state that I was in, I may have picked up on some unpleasant energies of the land. I later learned there is a violent history in the area from many years ago, and a grave was disturbed there in more recent times. How best to move forward is what I’m working on now since I would like to go back there again as it’s a beautiful area.

This is helpful! Thanks for suggesting it. I did look up some Native American history in the area, and also recently found out about Enemyway ceremonies. I’m mindful of not trying to copy another living tradition’s rituals without being a member, however I would like to learn more about these ceremonies from what’s publicly available. I’ll see what I find.
