First Day of the Month: Don't Forget Your Cinnamon Spell!

Thank you. I was a little unsure as to whether or not it would make a difference about the date. We have recently moved although we have been living in our new place a couple of months so that would count as a new beginning right? Then on the 1st of each month I could start a new ritual for our new home. Thank you I hadn’t thought of using a new beginning in a new home the first time since I missed the 1st of the month.
Blessed Be!

Done it, this is probably my most sacred silly little ritual, not sure why as I don’t ask for riches but I love this ritual

Yes, I’d say a new home is a wonderful new beginning that could work with this spell!

You’re very welcome - blessed be!

Yay! I’m happy you like it  There are some months when I miss it, but when I’m able to cast it, I agree - the cinnamon spell is a fun one to cast :brown_heart:

I remembered it, too - amazing! :joy:

It snowed a bit on us last night - but just like last month, the sun is shining strongly today. And- it’s March! The sun is higher in the sky and much stronger. The snow is already melting away. :sparkles:

I love this spell. :sparkling_heart:

I actually don’t do the cinnamon thing. I’ve never been comfortable blowing cinnamon powder into the house with the cats around. It may be harmless, but it just doesn’t resonate with me, so I don’t do it.

A while back I worked with Co-Pilot to come up with a simple candle and breath ritual that can be done each month instead and I can change it a little bit to align it with the seasons.

Sunny Sunday Greenbriar,

We have a pitbull and I know that cinnamon is a no-no for the critters. I stand outside my door, pulled to behind me, say my chant, and blow away from the door and chant, “as this cinnamon is blown, keep harm from my home”. The act of blowing it away is symbolic of the evil staying away, and it does not come inside.

That’s a great way to do it @leilani1 .

Could I see your ritual, beautiful? I haven’t done it because of the same reason and the nosy neighbors! I don’t want to harm my furbabies. They love napping by the doors to get every bit of sunshine they can.

Merry Monday Eira,

I put some cinnamon in the palm of my hand, close the door behind me and then blow the cinnamon away from the door as I chant, “with this cinnamon I blow away, keep harm at this home at bay” or similar. The act of blowing it away is sympathetic magick in keeping evil away. With the door pulled to, it does not come back into the house. I did this in the morning at the front and back doors.

Sure - here it is.

:herb: A Monthly Abundance Candle + Breath Ritual

A clean, contained, sensory practice that builds energy without mess.

What you need

  • A small candle (tea light or votive—white, green, or gold)

  • A bowl or cup of clean water

  • A single coin, stone, or charm you can reuse each month

  • Your breath and a moment of stillness

How to do it

  1. Set your space

Place the candle, the water, and your coin/stone together on your altar or a quiet surface. Let the arrangement feel serene and simple—like a small invitation rather than a display.

  2. Awaken the month

Hold the coin or stone between your palms. Feel its cool weight. Take three slow breaths, imagining each inhale drawing in possibility and each exhale releasing last month’s stagnation.

  3. Light the candle

As the flame rises, say softly:

“As this light begins, so does my month. May doors open, may blessings flow, May abundance come in ways gentle and true.”

  4. Charge the water

Dip your fingertips into the bowl and touch the coin/stone lightly. Imagine the water carrying clarity, ease, and opportunity into your life.

  5. Seal the intention

Place the coin/stone beside the candle until it burns out. When the candle is done, dry the coin/stone and keep it somewhere meaningful (pouch, wallet, altar) until next month.

  6. Close with gratitude

    Whisper a simple thanks:

“For what comes, for what grows, for what I welcome.”

:cherry_blossom: Why this works well as a monthly practice

  • No powders, no mess, no risk to cats.

    Everything stays contained.

  • Repetition builds power.

Using the same coin/stone each month creates a long, steady thread of energy.

  • It fits your aesthetic.

Soft light, water, breath, and a single object—serene, floral, gentle.

  • It’s portable.

You can even take the coin/stone with you as a quiet charm of continuity.

:crescent_moon: A shorter chant you can use anytime

If you want a quick “first of the month” line without a full ritual:

“New month, new light— Open paths, guide my sight.”
