What is a Full Moon?

If you need a recap of a Full Moon, click here! 🌕

A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.

As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.

During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Power of all Magic is truly at its peak, this lunar phase is key to either accept or reject projects, transformations, and manifestations that we initiated during the New Moon. - Spells and Things To Do on a Full Moon | Spells8

The Cold Moon

In the Northern Hemisphere, December’s Full Moon is called the Cold Moon. Depending on your location and tradition, you might also call it Frost Exploding Trees Moon, Long Night Moon, Snow Moon, or Little Spirit Moon. If you live in the north like I do, you will understand why this moon’s name is associated with all things freezing cold! December is when winter “officially” begins in the Northern Hemisphere – thus, we call it the Cold Moon!

In the Southern Hemisphere, you are approaching your warm weather season! Summer is starting for you! You may know the December Moon as the Strawberry Moon, Honey Moon, or Rose Moon. As always, feel free to give this Full Moon a name that resonates with your region and practice.

The Sign of Gemini

Gemini is the twin sign of the Zodiac – two sides of the same coin. Gemini is a mutable air sign, the third of the Zodiac, and is ruled by Mercury. Just as chatty as two people can be, Gemini enjoys communication and is very sociable. With their knack for words, it is common to see a Gemini at the center of attention, keeping everyone captivated with their storytelling and speech. This is good for the Gemini as they often need constant stimulation to keep themselves engaged – Mercury plays a role here in communication, as does the element of Air. Gemini is wistful, flitting between different subjects and places that interest them. It can be difficult to hold their concentration as long, boring, and arduous tasks are uninteresting to them.

Magick for the Full Cold Moon

This Full Moon in Gemini brings a bright and social energy to the otherwise still, introspective vibe of the Cold Moon. Gemini, ruled by Mercury, thrives on communication, curiosity, and versatility. Gemini is the sign of the storyteller – the eternal student who is always eager to learn, explore, and share ideas with the world.

However, this mutable air sign can also bring restlessness and overthinking. It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of Gemini’s duality. This Full Moon invites us to find balance—to embrace curiosity without losing our stability on the ground.

The fast-paced and excited energy of Gemini can leave your mind feeling scattered. Overthinking and anxiety can be especially high with a Full Moon in Gemini! Remember, the energy of the Full Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the Full Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice and it may work for yours, too!

You aren’t kidding - the temperature dropped and it is so cold out there now! Seems like it timed it with the Cold Moon haha.

Wishing everyone a bright and blessed full moon this weekend! :full_moon:

It was in the low 20Fs for me here this morning and that was after it was in the 50sF yesterday with rain! :exploding_head: It’s only going to get colder!

Happy Full Moon!

It’s been nutty here weather wise too. We were in the 20s, then a warm front blew in and we had a day in the upper 60s and now we’re back down to the 20/30s.

Maybe I’ll see moon dogs (ice ring around the moon) this time?

Just noticed an article about how this moon is a rarity.

Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to do some more digging about this and see what else I can learn

Its literally -8° here in North Dakota or around there for the last week. And that doesn’t account for the wind chill factor which there’s a lot of wind in North Dakota. They have frostbite warnings out that if you have skin exposed for more than 10 minutes you could possibly get frostbite. So yeah Cold Moon :waxing_crescent_moon::full_moon::waning_crescent_moon:

That is way too cold for me  I’m in Maine, but where I live it doesn’t get quite that cold. I think last winter the coldest it got was maybe -5° and that was overnight. I hope you can stay warm!

Oh wait till middle of January. It gets in the -50° when you factor in wind chill. Thats also when the wind is really bad. They have gates to close the highways here cuz of the drifting. Last year I worked at a hotel. And they would put us up in rooms so that they had a crew there. Because the people staying in the hotel would get stuck. We ended up feeding them dinner and lunch. I think the longest I stayed up there was two weeks because we couldn’t get out of the hotel.

Yeah, that’s crazy! No thank you for me
