A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.
As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.
During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Power of all Magic is truly at its peak, this lunar phase is key to either accept or reject projects, transformations, and manifestations that we initiated during the New Moon. - Spells and Things To Do on a Full Moon | Spells8
The Full Flower Moon
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the name for the Full Moon in May is the Full Flower Moon. It is given this name because of the season we are in – Spring! This is the time in the Northern Hemisphere when we usually see plant life, flowers specifically, blooming in abundance. Personally, I have flowers everywhere around my house right now. Even my lilac tree is blooming! Other names for this moon include Budding Moon, Frog Moon, and Planting Moon.
If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, the names for your Full Moons are different because the seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are opposite of the Northern Hemisphere. This month, the Full Moon may be called the Hunter’s Moon, Beaver Moon, or Frost Moon. Go with what works for you and your geographical location. The Sign of Sagittarius
Represented by the archer, Sagittarius is all about adventure and exploration. You would be hard-pressed to find a Sagittarius who likes to stay in one place for too long. The exploration that drives a Sagittarius is rooted in a passion and thirst for knowledge. They value their freedom and prefer to surround themselves with positive energy and people, leaving negativity behind because it doesn’t suit them. Sagittarius also loves to share what they know with others, bringing knowledge to the world in many different ways. Sometimes, though, the quick nature of a Sagittarius can make them appear aloof and hard to pin down, both as a friend and a romantic partner.

Magick for the Full Flower Moon
This Full Moon sees us at a weird axis in our lives. The Sun is in Gemini and driving us to think logically about what we do. The Moon in Sagittarius is more about intuition and feeling our way through life. Gemini likes to stay put while Sagittarius wants to move freely and explore. We will need to find a middle ground so neither Gemini nor Sagittarius is neglected in the way we move through the season.
Leaning into this theme of opposites, it may be a good time to do some work around how you feel grounded and where you want to spread your wings. Both options are great, and it is even possible to feel grounded in reality while also letting your intuition guide you through life. This Full Moon will illuminate many things in our lives, but we need to use caution when chasing them as these will be emotional rather than logical. Remember, don’t neglect either side of this polarity - use both intuition and logic.
