What is a Full Moon?

A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.
As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.
During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Power of all Magic is truly at its peak, this lunar phase is key to either accept or reject projects, transformations, and manifestations that we initiated during the New Moon. - Spells and Things To Do on a Full Moon | Spells8
The Harvest Moon?
We have one Harvest Moon per year. A Harvest Moon is the Full Moon that happens closest to the Mabon or the Autumn Equinox. This is usually around September 22 in the Northern Hemisphere. The Harvest Moon can happen in either September or October, depending on the way the lunar cycle works that year. What makes it interesting is that during this time, the moon rises closer to sunset for several nights in a row, giving more light in the early evening. Historically, this extra light was helpful for farmers harvesting crops, hence the name “Harvest Moon.”
This year, that Full Moon is in September! If September was not the Harvest Moon this year, it may be called the Corn Moon.
In the Southern Hemisphere, you are definitely not in Harvest season. Instead, you are in a season of growth and abundance! Your Full Moon for September can be known by many names. These include the Worm Moon, Crow Moon, and Sugar Moon. As always, choose a Full Moon name that works for you and your area. Regional practices are always going to be more meaningful than ones you have no connection to.
Lunar Eclipse
This month, we are also graced with a Lunar Eclipse! Some witches believe an eclipse can affect the energy of the Full Moon and prefer not to cast spells or work magick. Other witches do not feel any change in energy with the eclipse.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon aligns precisely with the Earth and Sun, casting its shadow upon our planet. As this phenomenon unfolds, viewers of the eclipse first witness the penumbral eclipse. This happens when the outer portion of the moon’s shadow begins to cast a faint glow upon affected areas of the Earth.

The Sign of Pisces
Pisces is a mutable water sign ruled by the planet Neptune. If you were born between February 19th and March 20th, you will have Pisces as your Sun Sign! Pisceans are one of the more intuitive signs in the zodiac due to their fluidity and connection with the Water element. They tend to enjoy being around people, but they are emotional vacuums! They tend to suck up the emotions of the people around them, making the Pisces likely very attuned with the people around them.
Pisceans also love to help others, leaning into their creativity to find solutions to problems. They may often find themselves daydreaming, visualizing everything they want to do and seeing the outcomes with perfect clarity! This gives Pisceans an advantage to others in terms of manifesting and reaching their goals. However, Pisceans can often get stuck in their heads, choosing to live in their daydreams rather than reality.

Make Eclipse Water
Yup, you read that right! Just like Full Moon Water, you can harness the energy of the Lunar Eclipse for future magickal workings. Used for watering plants, harnessing special energy, spiritual baths, and much more, eclipse water can be a great addition to your magickal toolbox.
Remember, the energy of the Full Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the Full Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice and it may work for yours, too!
